The American Government

I was unsure of what to expect coming into this course. However, by attending this class,

I understand more about many aspects of our government than I ever had before. For instance, I

now know where I am on the political spectrum, what media organizations to believe, and a wide

range of terms related to the government. I regret not having this information during the 2020

presidential election. Generally, it is impossible to summarize all of my new knowledge into a

one-page paper; nonetheless, I can try while being as concise as I can.

After analyzing the various facets of our government, there are several problems; many

decisions seem self-serving on the part of lawmakers. Surprisingly, some of these concerns are

governed by regulations (Jost, Baldassarri & Druckman, 2022). One illustration is the statute that

prohibits members of Congress from receiving compensation increases. Last but not least, I feel

like many government representatives say things merely because they believe it would appeal to

the people instead of believing it is right.

Despite the fact that there are many instances where I believe the government should be

doing more, there are certain elements that help it run well. To me, one illustration of this is how

frequently the government adopts laws and policies to make it more representative of the

country. Even minor changes, such as recognizing black lives matter and allowing gay

marriages, have significantly benefited the whole state.

I was eligible to participate in the 2020 presidential election. However, I was never

certain of who to support. Trump was backed by everybody close to me, yet I did not like him

since I was aware of the numerous dubious statements he had made. My dislike for him grew due

to his behavior after the election. The election did not cause me to lose faith in the government;

nonetheless, I feel that more could have been done to deal with the January demonstrators at the
3

White House. Ultimately, I suppose I might claim that the 2022 election was a win for

democracy. Except in a few instances, election naysayers were severely punished.

Overall, I learned more in this course than I ever imagined, strengthening my political

convictions. It taught me what is acceptable and unacceptable in our governance.
