The research of “The Effect of Collaborative Writing


Technique To Student Writing Ability at Junior High School” has
been conducted succesfully. This research was aimed at testing the effect of Collaborative
Writing Technique, to reveal the best results from comparation between independent writing
text’s test and collaborative writing text’s test. The population of this research was the 7 th
Grade of SMP Muhammadiyah 60 Medan enrolled on 2021/2022 academic year. The
samples were 24 students whom asked to write 2 simple texts with 2 different writing style.
The first test was independent test, students were asked to write anything that they know
about KH. Ahmad Dahlan. The second test was collaborative test, students were asked to
work and discuss in a group about KH Ahmad Dahlan and write it the best way they can.
Methodology of this research is quantitative using descriptive method where the data
collected by the researcher is based on the results of test and direct observation. Researcher
obtained results that there is almost no difference in quality between two writing technique
ability. Collaborative Writing Technique adds more variable to the quality of project but
individual ability to write plays a big role in the results. Researcher also found that students
enjoy the collaborative text’s test and it adds more value to the results. Based on the results, it
can be concluded that individual ability play a big role to produce good text while
collaborative writing technique adds more benefit to the writing project. Collaborative
Writing Technique is not about measuring individual ability but to produce a good and
comprehensive text.
