DISTIGUISH BETWEEN GENERAL AND SPECIFIC STATEMENTS

General ideas usually express the main point or main idea of a piece of
writing, often a claim that needs to be proven. Specific ideas provide
evidence to further define the general or main idea and prove that it is valid.

DISCUSSION

Below is an illustration that shows what is general and specific statement is.

Primary
colors

red yellow blue

General statement: The primary colors are red, yellow, and blue.
Specific statement: Red is one of the primary color.
Here are more examples of general and specific statements.

General statement: A shape is the form of an object.

Specific statement: Circle is a common shape with no point.

General statement: A president is the elected head of the republic.

Specific statement: President Duterte is the current president of the Republic
of the Philippines.

General statement: A square is a quadrilateral.

Specific statement: A square has 4 equal sides and 4 right angles.

ACTIVITY A. Write GENERAL if the statement is general and SPECIFIC if the

statement is specific.
