INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK
INTRODUCTION
The stabilizers comprise:
• vertical stabilizer and left and right elevators.
• horizontal stabilizer and single rudder.
The vertical stabilizer is mounted on the tail fuselage at frames 45 to 47
and 48 to 50. The rudder is attached to hinge brackets bolted to the
vertical stabilizer rear spar.
The horizontal stabilizer is mounted on top of the vertical stabilizer. The
elevators are attached to hinge brackets bolted to the horizontal stabilizer
rear spar.
Fairings enclose the horizontal/vertical stabilizer attachment, and a rear
fairing encloses the elevator control mechanism. Shrouds cover the gaps
between horizontal stabilizer/elevators, and vertical stabilizer/rudder.

RUDDER
The rudder assembly is a one piece, conventionally designed, all metal,
light alloy construction. It is comprised of a front spar, 36 closely pitched
ribs, left and right skin panels and a trailing edge member.
The left and right skin panels are chemically etched during manufacture
to give strengthened areas around the lower hinge points while achieving
minimum panel weight.
The rudder is attached to the vertical stabilizer by four hinge brackets,
which are shrouded by the stabilizer shrouds, and controlled by
conventional interconnected rudder pedals. The rudder pedals are
connected by rods and cables to two independent hydraulic actuators
that connect to the rudder at ribs 5 and 5A.
Two reversible lifting eyes are positioned aft of the centre hinge for use
during removal and installation of the rudder.
