ASSIGNMENT:

I. RELATIONS
a. Let G = {–2, 2, 4, 6} and H = {–1, –3, –7, –9}. Let relation V be define as follows:
Given (x, y) ∈ G×H,
(x, y) ∈ V means that x + y ∈ ℤ+
➢ Is –2V–1? Is 6V–9? Is (4, –3) ∈ V? Is (2, –3) ∈ V?
➢ Write V as a set of ordered pairs.
➢ Write the domain and co-domain of V.
➢ Draw an arrow diagram for V.

b. Suppose A = {–3, –2, –1, 0, 1, 2, 3}. Then relation T be define as the set of (x, y) from
A to A, (x, y) ∈ T if and only if
1 𝑦
+ is in ℤ.
2𝑥 2

➢ Is (–1, –3) ∈ T? Is 3T–2? Is –1T–1?

➢ Write T as a set of ordered pairs.
➢ Write the domain and co-domain of T.
➢ Draw a directed graph for T.

II. FUNCTIONS
A. Given that x = {–8, –5, –3, 0, 2, 7, 11}. Solve for f(x), g(x), and h(x) by substituting
each of the value of x to the function. (NOTE: Show the step-by-step solution. Answers
in fraction must stay in fraction form and reduce the fraction to its lowest term.)
a. f(x) = 3x2 – 8x – 3
3𝑥−15
b. g(x) =
𝑥 2 −25
c. h(x) = x2 – 2x – 8

B. Determine whether the following functions are equal or not, given that each function
are from ℝ to ℝ (or for all x ∈ ℝ).
2𝑥 3 + 2𝑥
a. f(x) = 2x and g(x) = 𝑥2 + 1
b. h(x) = (x – 2) and k(x) = (x – 1)(x – 3) + 1
