Fig. 22: Load diagram Fx,y = f (Fz, az) for Type 9333A

In accordance with the diagram for the determination of

the maximum permissible bending moment, for an axial
force of Fz = 42,36 kN; Fshear perm = 4 kN (az = 0) a bending
moment Mbperm = 45 N·m will result.

Fshear 4 kN
= = = 0,07
Fv + Fz 15kN + 42,36 kN

9323A_002-476e-10.22 Page 29
,

Fig. 23: Load diagram Mb = f (Fz, FLift) for Type 9333A

M b = Fshear  (az0 + az) + Fz  ax 2 + ay 2

Mb 45 N  m
Fshear = = = 2,65 kN
az 0 0,017 m

The result corresponds approximately with the value from

the load diagram Fx,y, i.e. the maximum permissible
moment will be exceeded upon an application of the
maximum shear force specified in the example of F shear =
4.0 kN at the cover plate height.

The originally desired shear force Fshear = 4,0 kN must be

reduced to 2,65 kN for az = 0 due to the maximum
bending moment or the shear force Fshear = 4.0 kN can be
applied at a height of az = –6 mm for Fz = 42,36 kN (see
load diagram Fx,y).

Page 30 9323A_002-476e-10.22
Measurement range and actuating variables

The maximum bending moment of 45 N·m and the

reduced shear force Fshear, result in a maximum shear force-
axial force ratio of

Fshear 2,65kN
= = = 0,046
Fv + Fz 15kN + 42,36 kN

▪ The Press Force Sensor in our example is loaded with the

axial force Fz = 42,36 kN and the
bending moment Mbperm. = 45 N·m.

In accordance with the load diagram for the torque Mz, an

additional

MzPermissible = 46,8 N·m can be applied for Fshear = 0.

Best straight line see Annex 10.3.

Cable capacitance The cable capacitance, and thus the length of the
connecting cable, has no noteworthy influence on the
measuring result when Kistler special cables and Kistler
charge amplifiers are used.

Calibration certificate Document for sensors and devices stating the results of the
factory calibration.

Charge signal Physical quantity which a piezoelectric sensor yields on its

mechanical load.

Coulomb Unit of electric charge.

1 coulomb corresponds to 1 Ampere-second (1 C = 1 As).

Page 64 9323A_002-476e-10.22
Annex

• additional bending moment acts on a force sensor:

Mx,y → Fz
• additional axial force acts on a torque sensor:
Fz → M z
• additional shear force acts on a force/torque sensor:
Fx,y → Fz and Fx,y → Mz

Drift Unwanted changes in the output signal independent of the

measurand as a function of time.

Frequency range see Annex 10.4.

Ground insulation High electrical resistance of a sensor between signal line

and ground, or of a charge amplifier between connector
screen and ground.

Hysteresis see Annex 10.3.

Insulation resistance Electric resistance of a sensor, cable or the input of a

charge amplifier measured between the signal line and the
connection ground (sensor body), while the test voltage is
stated accordingly. The insulation resistance applies for
piezoelectric sensor, strain gauge sensors and semi-
conductor sensors

Linearity see Annex 10.3.

Measurand Physical quantity, state or characteristic which is measured,

e.g. force, torque, pressure etc.

Measuring chain Interconnection of several individual components to meet

measuring requirements. Measuring chains usually consist
of sensors and amplifiers in conjunction with data
acquisition, display, evaluation and recording equipment
(e.g. PC, printer).

Measuring range, charge amplifier Charge, voltage or current range of the signal input. Entry
in units of the measurand is also possible depending on the
type of charge amplifier.

9323A_002-476e-10.22 Page 65
,

Measuring range, sensor Range in which the quality of the measurement within the
stated tolerances is guaranteed. This range must be
regarded as a binding maximum range.

Natural frequency Frequency of free (not forced) oscillations of the entire

sensor. In practice the (usually lower) natural frequency of
the entire mounting structure governs the frequency
behaviour.

Operating temperature range Range of ambient temperatures in which the sensor is to

be operated. The temperature-dependent tolerances
stated apply only within this range.

Output signal see "Charge signal"

Overload Maximum value of the measurand with which a sensor can

be loaded without sustaining damage. This refers to a
safety margin and is not an extended measuring range.
The characteristics specified in the calibration certificate are
no longer guaranteed in the event of an overload.
Nevertheless, measurements made during an overload in
most cases provide useful results
-12
pC (picocoulomb) 1 picocoulomb = 10 coulomb. See "Coulomb".

quasistatic Describes the ability of Kistler sensors and charge amplifiers

to undertake short-term measurements or DC-similar
measurements.

Range see "Measuring range"

Scaling Output voltage per unit of the measurand at the analogue

or monitor output of a charge amplifier..
