Wafer Paper

AC TONIC™ RECIPE
AC TONIC™ (ALCOHOL FREE WAFER PAPER CONDITIONER):
3 gr (½ tsp) food-grade glycerin
28 gr (2 tbsp) water [preferably distilled]

To make wafer paper conditioner, in a small bowl mix your

ingredients.
You can color this mixture using any gel color or petals dust.

Tip: You can use this conditioner to airbrush on wafer paper.

If you are living in a very humid area and risk melting wafer paper
while airbrushing, substitute water with lemon extract or high-proof
alcohol.

If using tap water - discard it after a day. Distilled water-based

mixture could be stored in a dark place for up to a month.

WAFER PAPER GLUE:

To make Edible Glue collect scraps of wafer paper.
Using sharp scissors cut wafer paper into small pieces, approximately
the size of a rice grain. Place pieces in a small bowl and add water to
cover it up and stir. Let the wafer paper glue sit for a few hours
(preferable overnight) to bloom.
Add more water if you need to adjust the consistency. Mixture should
be relatively thick and smooth.

Alternatively, you can microwave this mixture in 10-second

increments until wafer paper is melted.

Store in the fridge for up to a week.

HOW TO CHOOSE WAFER PAPER:

There are 3 main types of wafer paper:

O-grade (0.22 mm) – very thin and light. I use this type for multi-petal
flowers and if I want to make something quick.

My favorite brand in this category – Oasis Supply 0-grade

AD-grade (Premium or 0.27-0.35 mm) – the most common type of

paper to make flowers, foliage, and decorations. Takes on texture
beautifully and is very versatile. The downside for me – I need to apply
conditioner to both sides.

My most used 0.27mm is Saracino Wafer Paper or Oasis Supply AD-

grade

DD-grade (double-thickness or 0.6mm) – smooth on both sides and

relatively thick. Great for printing designs or painting. I wouldn’t
recommend this type of wafer paper for making flowers. It may work
for making foliage and structured decoration, but it is stiff and fragile.

I have Saracino Cardstock and Icing Images Double-thickness wafer

paper, but you can also buy Oasis Supply DD-grade.

WHAT IS WAFER PAPER:

Wafer paper is a sheet of edible paper, typically starch-based.

It’s safe to eat and the flavor is very subtle — so it won’t interfere with
what’s going on in your cake.
You can manipulate wafer paper in all kinds of ways, another reason
why it’s so great for cake decorating.
Ingredients: potato starch, water and vegetable oil.

HOW TO STORE WAFER PAPER:

Keep wafer paper in a clean Ziplock bag and store in a cool, dry place.
Wafer paper can last quite some time (around 2 or 3 years on
average), if stored correctly.
