The table below details the hardware and firmware revisions that can be used
with this 1715 release.
Each module has a hardware revision letter that indicates the build level of the
module. It also has a firmware revision number that indicates the firmware
programmed at manufacture time. This information can be found on the side
label of each module.
If you have hardware that is not compatible, please contact Tech Connect.

2 1715-AENTR Release Notes
The 1715-AENTR firmware must be updated with the Normal Mode and
Recovery Mode firmware listed above using ControlFLASH. Refer to User
Manual 1715-UM001 Chapter 2 Installation Instructions, System Software
section for details.
It is recommended that all the I/O modules are updated to firmware revision
3.001 using ControlFLASH, to ensure that the correct revision is reported for
module electronic keying.
I/O modules that are not updated will report the firmware revision 2.003,
although they will be functionally identical to the firmware revisions listed above.
System Features Add Ability To Enable HART Data and HART Pass Through on AI/AO Modules.
HART Data and HART pass through are now supported on Analog Input
modules 1715-IF16 and Analog Output modules 1715-OF8I.
A 1715 HART Device Type Manager (DTM) is available. Refer to DTM Release
Note 1715-RN003.
Voltage and Current monitoring and status information is now available for the
1715-OB8DE.
1715-IB16D Timestamps
The real-time clock on the 1715-AENTR can now be set using the CIP Wall
Clock Time Object. This can be done from the 1715-AENTR Add On Profile,
using messages from a Logix application, or another client.
System Feature First Identified as of: 1715-AENTR Firmware Revision 3.001, 1715-AENTR AOP

System Feature First Identified as of: 1715-AENTR AOP V4.01.28, 1715-IB16D AOP V5.01.27,
1715-IF16 AOP V5.01.27, 1715-OB8DE AOP V5.01.27
The Add On Profile dialogs have been updated to support the new features.
1715-AENTR AOP
• Webserver disable added to the dialog
• Wall Clock Time Object added to the dialog
1715-IB16D AOP
• Timestamping added to the dialog
1715-OB8DE AOP
• Voltage and current added to the tags
A number of improvements have been made to the TCP/IP Stack, CIP stack and
web-server to increase robustness and resilience.
System Feature First Identified as of: 1715-AENTR Firmware Recovery Revision 1.011
Module discovery will report “Error Starting Module Discovery” on 1715 if the
rightmost slot or rightmost two slots of the final 3 slot backplane chassis
component is/are not occupied by a 1715 I/O module.
Workarounds:
• Do not use module discovery but add each module manually.
• Ensure the last slot is occupied.
Timestamping

The Upper Current Limit For Analog Input / Output Configurations has been
changed from 20 mA to 24 mA, which allows field currents greater than 20 mA
to be processed. This limitation is enforced by the corresponding module Add
On Profile (AOP).

Device Level Ring (DLR) sign-on packages are now generated and processed
correctly.
This only affected rings with more than 16 nodes using some CIP enabled
industrial switches.

The correct response is now generated for the CIP Port Object GetAttributeAll
request.
Destination Unreachable ICMP Messages are now handled so that sockets are no
longer closed.

Multiple Ethernet link breaks within a short period no longer cause the
1715-AENTR to shutdown.
The IP Address can be set successfully when dual 1715-AENTRs are present.
The dual 1715-AENTRs no longer go out of sync.
SIL2 Diagnostic counters are shown in all configurations of dual I/O modules
(only left fitted, only right fitted, both fitted).
The Webserver now displays the correct firmware revision numbers for the I/O
modules.
The I/O can no longer be accessed when the 1715-AENTR is in Recovery Mode.
The connection to the I/O is rejected.
This only applies to Recovery Mode, it does not affect the normal operation of
the 1715-AENTR.
