29333 Barritfs Reagent A

This reagent is used in Voges-Proskauer test for detection

of acetoin production by bacterial culture along with Barritt
Reagent B.

Composition:
a-Naphtol(1-Naphtol)5.0g
Absolute ethanol 100ml

Directions:
Grow test culture in MR-VP Médium. Add 0.6 mi (6 drops) of
Reagent A and 0.2 mi (2 drops) of Reagent B for 10 mi
médium. Sliake tubes gently for 30 seconds to 1 minute to
expose the médium to atmospheric oxygen in order to
oxidize the acetoin (acethyimethyicarbinol) so as to obtain a
color reaction. Allow tube to stand at least 10 to 15 minutes.
