DAY

Standing in the centre of screen looking into the camera,

stands KEVIN CASHMAN, mid 20s, brown hair, dedicated but
anxious, aspiring actor trying to recite his lines while
fighting the urge of temptation to look at the script.

KEVIN
KEVIN (CONT’D)
And others may not even care enough
to ever ask. Asking.. Asking..
Kevin looks around as he tries to remember the line that
follows. As he quickly glances at the script in his hand, the
DIRECTOR, DAVID ORIDELLA, late 40s, old fashion but
understanding, interrupts him
DAVID

ORIDELLA (O.S.)
CUT, CUT, CUT, CUT...

As the camera shows the establishing shot of the set outside,

everyone quickly stops what they're doing and turns towards
David as he is sitting behind the monitor.
DAVID ORIDELLA
CUT GOD DAMN IT!

David gets up from his director's chair and slowly approaches

a now timid Kevin.

With the silence cutting the room and everyone on edge, David
leans into the chest of Kevin, stares past his head and
whispers into his ear.

DAVID ORIDELLA
Are you sure you're cut out for
this son?

Kevin staring straight ahead as if he was saluting a military

Kevin staring straight ahead as if he was saluting a military
general, nods his head up and down.

DAVID ORIDELLA
I asked you a question didn't I?

Kevin takes a deep breath as he stands anxiously, and replies

KEVIN
Yes sir, I am cut out for this.

David looks around at the rest of the crew and begins to walk
back to his chair.

As David gets mid way to his chair, he begins to speak out

loud.

DAVID ORIDELLA
You know.. I didn't get hired to
babysit, I got hired to make an ad
campaign. When I started in this
industry years ago, nothing was
handed to me, everything was
earned. The problem nowadays is you
kids think you can half-ass
everything and still get another
chance at it because your
generation is... whats the word..

David snaps his fingers in the direction of his, dorky, over

achieving and organized, ASSISTANT while trying to figure out
the word he's looking for, when his assistant pops his head
out from behind the monitor and shouts

ASSISTANT
ASSISTANT
umm, entitled?
David does a smooth spin turn and points towards the crew and
Kevin and shouts
DAVID ORIDELLA
LAZY! Your generation is just flat
out lazy.. And we will be here all
night until we get it right.
David approaches his seat

DAVID ORIDELLA
Lets go, start back at the top!
Kevin stares to the sky when he notices that everyone around
the room is staring at him.

The FIRST AD walks with her clipboard to a place everyone can

see and hear her and yells.

The First AD then flips her head over to the, early 30s,
confident and dependable CAMERA OPERATOR , points a yells

The Camera Operator gives her a head nod, and yells

Lastly a short, chunky, happy to be here, PA walks in front

of the camera with his slate to frame the shot and yells;

David gets up and cuts Kevin off as he's too distracted by

the pacing.

DAVID ORIDELLA

CUT! STOP, STOP, JUST STOP!
Everyone take lunch!

The crew all stops what they're doing and goes to take a
break. Kevin begins to walk to join the others until David
calls him out.

DAVID ORIDELLA (CONT’D)

Not you Cashman. You come with me.
Kevin stops in his tracks and turns to walk with David. David
puts his arm around Kevin and proceeds to take a walk with
him.

DAVID ORIDELLA
Come here kiddo, come with me. Lets
go for a walk

ORIDELLA
Hey kiddo, whats going on? Is
everything alright?

Kevin quickly looks at David

KEVIN
KEVIN
Hey, ya, everything is good i'm
sorry.

DAVID ORIDELLA
I promised your mother if you were
ready that I would give you a
chance. Right now you're not
proving to me that you're ready

KEVIN
I am ready uncle! I do want this. I
swear I know my lines!

David throws up his hands in the air as he is confused to why

Kevin keeps messing it up.

DAVID ORIDELLA
So what is it Kev!? I pulled a lot
of strings with the company to
allow me to have creative freedom
on this project and I pulled for
you.

KEVIN
I know you did and I am super
I know you did and I am super
grateful for that! It's just I
struggle some times.

DAVID ORIDELLA
Struggle with what Kev?

KEVIN
I have ADHD..
DAVID ORIDELLA
Oh of course you do, don't we -

KEVIN
No, I'm serious. When I try to
focus for very long, my mind begins
to wonder. I forgot to take my
medicine this morning.. I'm sorry
uncle but I swear I am trying.
David glances at the poster Kevin was staring at minutes
before. Kevin is looking towards the floor with anxiousness,
and begins to pace again. David notices Kevin's movement and
puts his arm around him and begins to walk back towards the
set. Kevin continues to walk with his head down when David
lifts his chin up and taps him on the chest.
DAVID ORIDELLA
I got you Kev. I didn't know you
actually were diagnosed with it.

KEVIN
It's okay, but I promise you I'm
trying.

DAVID ORIDELLA
I know you are kid. Let's focus on
taking our time. All I need from
you is not to give up on me. If you
mess up, don't worry, take a breath
and start over. No one is upset
with you. Can you do that?

Kevin nods his head up and down.

David points towards the set.

DAVID ORIDELLA (CONT’D)

Now go take a break kid, and
remember what I told you. We got
this, you got this.

As Kevin walks back to join the rest of the crew, David

decides to take a walk in the opposite direction to think of
how he can better help Kevin.
