This note actually is all about the Salt Test for Cation and Anion for the upcoming WAEC 2024

For 2024 WAEC practical examination, the given Salt to test for are:

1. Aqueous Barium Chloride (BaCl)

2. Aqueous Ammonia (NH4OH or NH3)

3. Silver trioxonitrate V solution also Silver nitrate (AgNO3)

There is this specific solution that we can't actually categories, but it could also be salt. (I'm not
sure).

 Acidified Potassium dichromate solution (CrO5 + H2O + K2SO4)

In addition, if you found a label reagent bottle this are present in it.

 An > 150cm³ of potassium tetraoxomanganate (VII) solution containing 1.58gdm-³.

 Bn > 150cm³ of Iron II tetraoxosulphate (VI) containing 5.5gdm-³

 Cn > mixture of Na2CO3 & Pb(NO3)2

Test for Salt

Test Observations Inference

Silver nitrate followed by A white precipitate of silver Chloride ion (Cl-)

Iron Green gelatinous precipitate, Fe²+, Fe³+

crystalline in nature, green
solution (Fe²+), brown solution
(Fe³+)

Manganese IV oxide Greenish yellow colored, Cl-

chlorine is evolved.
