BSED-ENGLISH 1A

Learning Competencies Give Technical and Operational Definition

At the end of the lesson 75% of the students should

be able to:
Give technical and operational definition.
Subtask:
I. OBJECTIVES 1. Differentiate between technical and
operational definitions

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic TECHNICAL AND OPERATIONAL
DEFINITION
b. References Internet and book/s
c. Materials Laptop with internet access, projector, Canva
Presentation

d. Values integration

III. PROCEDURE
Preliminaries
a. Prayer The Lord’s Prayer
b. Daily Routine Good morning my dear students. How are you today?
Have you eaten your breakfast? Always remember to
eat your breakfast before going to school because
breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

c. Drill To exercise our mind, let’s have a quick spelling

drill. Are you ready students? Can you spell the word
Algorithm. Very good! Can you spell the word
Calibration? Excellent!

Okay before we start our discussion for today, let us

first have a game. The game called "I know what
you're talking about." You will have to guess what
I'm defining in this game as I define various objects,
thoughts, and concepts. The objects, thoughts, and
concepts are ones that you can identify with. Are you
Motivation ready for our activity?
Example: An instrument that records, summarized
and analyzes text that is published for educational
purposes, entertainment and leisure and is usually
used for reading. (5 sec)
Answer: Book/s
Wow! Very good you seem to really know what is
asked in the definitions.
PRESENTATION OF TOPIC
In our previous activity, I asked you to identify what
is asked. Now let's proceed to the real discussion.
What do you call the act of giving meaning to an
object, place, or idea?
Very good! It is to define something. How about the
statement that gives meaning of a term?
Yes correct! it is a definition. When we give meaning
of a particular term, we are actually defining that
term and the statement we use to give meaning to a
term is called a definition. These concepts are very
essential to our discussion for today because we are
going to tackle about Technical and Operational
Definitions.

Can anyone tell the class where do we usually use

technical and operational definition? Excellent! we
use technical and operational when we are asked to
write an academic paper particularly a research
. paper. Technical and Operational are of big help to
researchers in conducting a study. I have here the
meaning of technical and operational definition. Who
wants to read? (Student reads the meaning)

Okay class let’s remember that Technical and

Operational Definition are the two different types of
definition. Technical Definition it refers to the
definition of a word as used in a particular field like
science, law, or engineering. Mostly refers to the
aspect of explaining or describing any terminology.
The definition of terms/words are found in the
dictionary. While operational definition it is a result
ABSTRACT of the process of operationalization and it is used to
define something (term/object)in terms of process. It
is the process of defining a word/term of how it is
used in a sentence, or using context clues. It is the
application of the word/term. These may include the
various attempts to define or explain a certain
process and its properties including but not limited to
the characterization of the event itself.
Okay class, it seems to me that you have already
familiarized yourselves with the concepts related to
technical and operational definitions. I have here
example definitions that will be flashing on the
screen and what you will do is you will identify what
type of definitions the given statement below. Are my
instructions clear, class?

Now that you are already familiar with the basic

concepts of Technical and Operational Definitions,
let’s have a short exercise.
To assess the understanding of today's lesson. I will
be giving a pop quiz. Get ½ crosswise sheet of paper.
Direction: Draw a Vinn diagram and differentiate the
two types of definitions which are the technical and
IV. EVALUATION operational definition.
Now that you are already familiar with Technical and
Operational Definitions, you are now going to give
technical and operational definitions for selected
words. For your assignment, you are going to write
technical definition and an operational definition for
the following words.
V. ASSIGNMENT
1. Bar
2. Slope
3. Table
4. Trunk
5. Code
