BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Birth/ Medical history:
Reva was born out of C-Section delivery,4.4kg. She had cried immediately after birth but she experienced
convulsions after birth.

Developmental history:
The speech and motor milestones have been reported to be achieved quite late. Currently, she can walk
without assistance and doesn’t use words to communicate but uses gestures often while communicating.

Social & Behavioral history:


The child doesnot play with other children. Although she doesn’t understand rules of the game.
Behaviorally, she is very restless and fidgety.

Academic history:
Academically, she is in nursery. She responds to her name but can’t write her name.

Family history/ Nature of environment:


This has been no significant family history reported by her parents.

TESTS ADMINISTERED: -
KAMATH BINET TEST OF INTELLIGENCE

The Kamath Binet Test of Intelligence is a commonly used as a verbal test. This test had been revised and
adapted to the Indian condition. It gives a pattern analysis for seven primary abilities namely language,
memory, conceptual thinking, reasoning, numerical reasoning, visual-motor co-ordination and social
intelligence. However, owing to child’s poor reciprocity, limited exposure, the test was discontinued.

VINELAND SOCIAL MATURITY SCALE (VSMS)

Social behavior is the activity of an in individual which qualifies, modifies otherwise alters the act of
another individual. A society behavior is stimulated by the society which again stimulates other members
of the group or society. Social maturity deals with learning to properly relate to the acquaintances, friends
and intimate relationship. It also involves understanding how to honor and respect those in authority,
civil, parental, employer or spiritual. It is an indicator of the life skills a person possesses for various
situations.

Based on developmental history, behavioral observations and the results of VSMS, she is having
borderline intellectual disability with SQ of 72. She is having poor communication and social skills and
also having sensory issues as per assessment.

Self-Help-General:
Her Self-help general score goes to 39.5%, it implies that she is not age appropriate socially developed.
She needs assistance in bathing.

Self-Help Eating:
Her Self-help Eating score goes to 50%, which implies that she is not age socially developed as per her
age. She needs assistance in mixing food

Self-Help Dressing:
Her Self-help Dressing score goes to 35%, it implies that she is not age socially developed as per her age.
She needs help in dressing and buttoning.

Locomotion:
Her Locomotion score goes to 43.75 %, it implies that she is not age socially developed as per her age.
She can climb upstairs and downstairs without assistance.
Communication:
Her communication score goes to 50 %, it implies that she is not age appropriate socially developed. She
uses one sentence. She doesn’t understand any sentence just repeats it. She points at things she likes. Her
speech is still not clear.

Occupation:
Her Occupation score goes to 66.6 %, it implies that she is not age socially developed as per her age. She
scribbles with pencil, crayons, she cannot write anything, and still doesn’t know how to write her name,
but can play by herself.

Socialization:
His Socialization score goes to 19.4%, it implies that she is not age socially developed as per her age. She
demands attention and plays by herself.

CONCLUSION:
Reva was not feeling comfortable with the setting of the test. She analyzed her own social behavior and
after getting score of 72 %, fall under borderline range of social maturity, according to their age, it
indicates her social capacity. Reliability of this test is very high; this test resembles 96% of Binet test of
Intelligence. She needs to improve going out self-assistance, as she has below average social development
according to their age.

RECOMMENDATION:
 Parental counseling and guidance regarding diagnostic condition
 Early intervention should be given which includes physical therapy, speech and social skill training
which helps in each of four main areas of development-gross-motor, fine motor, learning, social
development and self-help skills.
 Play therapy and role play to enhance socialization
 Need special communication to develop functional and personal development
 Behavioral modification programme for undesirable behavior, positive reinforcement is much better
method.
 Contingency management-whenever she makes desired verbal behavior, she should be positively
rewarded and reward should be withheld when behavior is not followed
 Direct instruction in short period of time along with smaller chunks of activities will help to support
learning
 Train for household response, where she can manage herself.
