Chapter 4: Building an E-commerce Presence: Web Sites, Mobile Sites, and Apps
Commerce
Step 1 of 4
TPBY is a famous pirated site where users can download pirated music, videos,
songs and even movies. It provides for free access of all these copyrighted stuff
online. The founders of this firm say that TPBY is just another search engine like
Google and Bing and it does not violate any copyright laws. Large amount of users
The following are the answers to the questions in this case study:
1. TPBY believes that it was not violating copyright laws because it believed that it
is functioning just like any other P2P network like Google and Bing. It argues that
it is a type of search engine where browsers search for their choice of product and it
is beyond the websites hand to control the stuff people download or view at their
website.
Over this issue Swedish court ruled that TPBY is violating copyright laws and the
founders of TPBY were sentenced one year jail term and also a fine of $3.5 million.
Step 3 of 4
copyright laws by stating that this website has gone beyond the control of its owners.
Everytime they try to put a stop at this website but still due to heavy rush at P2P
networks, users automatically finds this website and downloads the stuff they need.
TPBY continued managing its website to be clean and clear from allegations of
possessing pirated stuff but due to its popularity and availability among the users,
the website continues its operations and labeling itself as a search engine it offers
Step 4 of 4
3. The problems created by pirates like TPBY led the music industry to react very
piracy, music industry changed its way of presenting music to the world. In the year
2011, it was the very first time when music was presented and launched in a
completely digital form. And amazingly the revenues generated by digital launch of
music were higher than its physical distribution. In this model, the music launchers
availed a strict license for the ownership of their music and videos which came out
as a win-win situation for them. This way music industry safeguarded their interest

AK is one of the webs major helpers and companies like AT&T, Comcast, and
Verizon etc. use AK’s web help to increase the speed of their online content. AK
was founded in the year 1998 by Mr. TM who was a professor at MIT. AK provides
security of the web content available online and blocks the internet security threats
online.
Step 2 of 6
clients that requires AK to provide its web services at different locations. Most of
the fortune 500 companies are served by AK. Even the US military official’s
servers to suit the requirements and internet availability for its clients.
Step 3 of 6
2. If I wanted to deliver software content over the internet, then I would definitely
sign up for AK’s service because anyone who wishes to upload its content over
internet has to be assured of its security. The content uploaded over internet has to
go thorough security check and it should be protected from all malwares available
internet, thus I would go for AK’s services to safeguard my web content. The
alternative that exists for AK’s services are virus scanners, anti-virus security etc.
Step 4 of 6
3. The advantages that an advertiser derives from using AK’s services could be that
the products or a service that an advertiser is advertising online will be secured from
all the threats and malwares after going through AK’s services. Because due to
internet age, today anything on internet is not secured from the threats present online
and AK could be a good option for making the online content secured.
The type of products that might benefit from this kind of service could be online
Step 5 of 6
4. Major business firms do not distribute their videos using P2P networks like
BitTorrent because the content available at this site is malicious and carry virus and
other internet threats. This is the reason why big businesses do not put their videos
through BitTorrent as there are higher chances of getting this content malicious
Step 6 of 6
5. As per my opinion, I think that internet users should be charged based on the
amount of bandwidth they consume as well as on a tiered plan where users would
pay in rough proportion to their usage. It should be as per the individual’s interest
whether he would like to opt for paying charges either as per the bandwidth or as per
the tiered plan. This would provide an internet user a fair opportunity to choose the
