Suggested topics for Engl. 205 Final Exam (Argumentative Essays) Spring 2024 sec.

(2)
The following are two suggested topics for the final exam. Make brainstorming and outlining
about them to be ready to write a 5- paragraph coherent, cohesive, and unified argumentative
essay about one of them. Bring your outline of these two topics to the class where you are asked
to use one of them to write the essay. Make sure that your essay has three parts:
I. An Introductory paragraph should have the following elements, A hook, background
information, and thesis statement. In the thesis, you should state your viewpoint (whether you
agree or disagree).
II. Body paragraphs
Body paragraph (1) should have a topic sentence which includes the first reason that supports
your argument (opinion) stated in the thesis followed by supporting details such as examples,
definitions, facts, anecdotes, etc.
Body paragraph (2) should have a topic sentence which includes the second reason that supports
your argument (opinion) stated in the thesis followed by supporting details such as examples,
definitions, facts, anecdotes, etc.
Body paragraph (3) should start with the counterargument (Opposing view) followed by a
concession in which you agree to a certain extent with the opposing viewpoint without changing
your opinion. After concession, make refutation by adding more reasons which make your
argument stronger and the counterargument (Opposing view) weaker.
III. A Concluding paragraph should have some elements such as restating the thesis statement
or making summary of the main points you mentioned in the essay followed by recommendation,
warning, advice, suggestion, insight, or prediction, etc.
Make sure that each paragraph has a minimum of three sentences.
Make your essay double spaced.
