Lesson Plan in Grade IV - Mathematics

I. Learning Objectives

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

 Identify fractions in lowest terms.

 apply the steps in changing fractions to its lowest terms.
 write fractions to lowest terms.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Changing Fractions to Lowest Terms

Reference: K to 12 Grade IV Curriculum, LM Mathematics IV, Quarter 2 Module 5, pp. 1-8

Materials: PowerPoint Presentation; Laptop, speaker, cartolina, pictures, and whiteboard.

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities
1. Opening Prayer
- May I request everybody to please stand for - All students will stand.
our prayer?
- James, can you lead the prayer? - (James leads the prayer.)
- “The Lord’s Prayer”
2. Greetings
- Good Morning, Class. - Good Morning, Teacher Eloisa.
- How are you today? - We are all fine, Teacher.

3. Checking of Attendance
- Please stay in your proper seats, because I
will check first the attendance.

- I’m glad that everyone is present today.

B. Review
- Okay class, before we proceed to our lesson
today. Can you still remember our lesson - Yes, teacher.
yesterday?
- What it is all about? - (Student will raise their hands and teacher will
call a student)
- Our lesson yesterday was about fractions and its
parts.
- Very Good.
- What is Fraction? - Fraction is used to represent the portion/part of
the whole thing.
- Fraction can be represented by a/b where b ≠ 0.
- Excellent.
- What are the parts of a fraction? - The parts of a fraction are numerator and
denominator.

- What is Numerator? - Numerator represents how many fraction

pieces you have.
- How about Denominator? - Denominator represents how many fraction
pieces your whole is broken into.

- Fraction bar represents what? - Fraction bar represents division.

- Good job class! Let’s give everyone a round

of applause.

C. Motivation
- Now Class, we will a sing a song. It is in the
tune of “Barney”. Are you ready to sing? - Yes, teacher.
- Okay everyone, you sing after me. Do you
understand? - Yes, teacher.

D. Presentation
- What’s the song all about? - The song is all about fraction
- The song tells how to reduce fraction to its
lowest term.
- Correct! The song is all about how to reduce
fraction to its lowest term.

- Based on the song how to reduce the

fraction to its lowest term? -We must find the GCF teacher.

- Very Good! We should find first the GCF/

Greatest Common Factor.

-After we find the GCF or the Greatest

Common Factor, what are we going to do based - The GCF will used as a divisor to the numerator
on the song to get the lowest term of a fraction? and denominator and it will a form a new fraction
which is in lowest term.
- Good Job! Let’s give yourself a clap.
E. Analysis
- Teacher will discuss the lesson about:
Changing Fractions to Lowest terms

- Now, I have tree here, which is called “Tree

of Knowledge”. This is consisting of different
fractions that we need to change to its lowest
term.

- Okay, let’s read first the steps on how to

change fraction to its lowest term.

- Since you know already the steps on how to

change fractions to its lowest term. Let’s do it to
the following examples.

- What are the factors of 2?

- What are the factors of 4?
- Very good! The common factors are?
- Now, what is the Greatest Common Factor?
- Very Good! The Greatest Common Factor is
2.
- Let’s use the GCF to divide the fraction.
- What is the lowest term of 2/4?
(The teacher will discuss other examples) - (The students answer all the question of the
teacher)

- Good job class! All of your answer are

correct!

E. Application
Fun Fraction Group Activities

- Okay class, we will have fun group activities.

Go to your respective group. Each group will be
given different activity and an answer sheet. After
answering, every group will choose a leader and
report their work. I will give you 10 minutes to do - Yes teacher!
your work. Do you understand?

- Let’s start with group 1. - (Every Group will present their work)

- Excellent! All your answers are correct!

F. Abstraction - Identify first the Greatest Common Factor of its

- How can we reduce fraction to its lowest numerator and denominator.
term? - by dividing the numerator and denominator
with their Greatest Common Factor (GCF).

-To reduce a fraction to its lowest term, divide

the numerator and the denominator by their
GCF.

- A fraction in its lowest term if the numerator

and the denominator have no other common
factor except 1.

-Remember, reducing fractions makes us

easier to visualize and work into other math
problems. (The class will answer their activity in book)

G. Evaluation
- Okay, now class get your book and answer
pp. 103 Math Practice.

H. Assignment
- For your assignment answer pp. 104 letter A.
