Interpretation :
1. CA 125 is a protein found in ovarian cells
2. Increase in CA-125 is observed in Ovarian Cancer, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic inflammation, liver damage, fluid
build-up in the abdomen, heart, lungs, pregnancy and gynaecological disorders like endometriosis
Clinical Utility:
• CA 125 is a tumor marker used for monitoring treatment and relapse of epithelial ovarian cancer.
• The combination of CA 125 and HE4 assay can be used for therapeutic monitoring as well as for risk stratification of
harboring Epithelial Ovarian Cancer (ROMA value) in early stages.
• This test should not be used for diagnosis of cancer in isolation, as both false positive and negatives can occur
