Tratak Meditation is an ancient form of yogic
meditation. It is a very simple yet very
powerful technique of meditation to achieve
Divine Hidden Powers. Tratak is a
meditation, where a person can sit and stare
continuously at a single point.

types of Tratak based on the
object used for Tratak. Here
are the details of some
Tratakas…
Bindu Tratak: on a Single
Black Dot.
Murti Tratak: on an Idol.
Vartul Tratak: on a Circle.
Valay Tratak: on a Spiral
Ring.
Jyoti Tratak: on a Flame of
a Lamp or a Candle.
Surya Tratak: on Early
Sunrise or just before
Sunset. This is done less
than 5 min with expert
guidance only.
Trinetra Tratak: on your

How to do
Light the candle, Sit in a comfortable meditative
posture in a dark room to avoid any distraction from
things in room and simply breathe slowly to relax the
body and develop stillness
Close the eyes, and eventually open them, gazing at
the center of the candle flame, just above the wick.
Try to keep the eyes steady without blinking.
Gaze for as long as possible without straining the
eyes, and then close them when you need to
With the eyes closed, turn the gaze up to the center
of the eyebrows. Try to keep the image of the flame in
your awareness for as long as possible, focussing
upon it and studying any colors that may appear
When the image eventually disappears, repeat the
process, continuing for 5-10 minutes
If the mind wanders, focus upon the breath,
imagining the breath flowing in and out of the
eyebrow center.
One can use other objects too to focus like a tip of
pen or pencil, rolling fan, switch……..depends, just
need to concentrate mind, body, heart, at one point.

It need a continuous practice, patience because


initially, the mind may divert in every second but I
suggest do not suppress the thought, let the mind
chatter as much as it can and then analyze what to
work on which to be avoided. with time thoughts will
itself disappear and everything will be focussed. “
suppressing something is a disease, let the things

comes out and then faded away.”

How to do
Tratakam is a highly scientific and classified
technique. We need to learn and master the Arts and
Science of the human nervous system before
practice. Now, let me give you a few guidelines.

1. Kindly study the visual pathway, pupillary reflex,


and accommodation reflex.

2. Focus on a distant object first for a few minutes.

3. Bring the focus to the tip of the nose.

4. Focus and regulate breathing.

5. Then, focus between the eyebrows for a few


minutes.

6. Increase the timing gradually.

7. Focus as long as it is comfortable.

8. Stop immediately after experiencing a headache or


eye strain.

9. Remove excess energy from the eyes with healing


techniques.

Things that need to take


care of
1.candle should be three to four feet (1 metre plus)
away, the flame level with the eyes. The practitioner
relaxes but keeps the spine erect and remains
wakeful and vigilant.
2.Sit comfortably in any posture. Keep your head,
neck, back straight. The candle should be at your eye
level.

Tratak 2. If there is watering in your eyes close your

eyes and take some rest

3. Start again

4. Gradually increase the time of this sadhana.

5. Do not expect that you can be expert in one

day or one week. It will take time. 6. Do not compare


your self with others. Every

body has his or her own practice and results

Disadvantage
1.Should not be interested in psychic abilities.
2.Practice done forcefully can damage the retina or
eyes.
3.If overdone may deviate from path of enlightenment
due to the psychic power acquired.
