DEVI AHILYA VISHWAVIDYALAYA, INDORE

SCHOOL OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION

School of Physical Education (SOPE), DAVV, Indore is a pioneer institute in central India
serving the cause of the profession over 19 years. Under the scheme of University Grant
Commission, Delhi, it was established in the year 1990 and runs under the faculty of Physical
Education of DAVV Indore. The course offered that time was B.Sc. in Physical Education,
Health Education and sports. The course was renamed as B.P.E. (Bachelor in Physical
Education) in the year 1994-95 and the first batch of B.P.E. passed in the year 1997. The
nomenclature of the course was changed to B.P.E.S. as per U.G.C. guideline in 2016.

The School of Physical Education started the post graduation course, M.P.Ed. (Master of
Physical Education) in the year 1993-94 on self-finance basis and the first batch of M.P.Ed.
had completed their course in the year 1995.

The School of Physical Education has successfully pursued academic excellence & quality
leadership to prepare teachers in the field of Physical department has produced more than 60
NET and 16 JRF qualified students. Today the department is also successfully running Ph.D
programmes. About 50 Ph.D. have been produced by this university under the faculty of
Physical Education guided by the faculty of SOPE. The department has dedicated and well
qualified faculty including four Professors, one associate professor and two senior lecturers.

Aims and Objectives

The aim of the institute is to prepare professional leaders of Physical Education who will
serve the Nation by their professional knowledge and skill. For the purpose of attaining the
above aim the following objectives are to be given specific attention:-

1. To meet the need of the professional leaders needed by the institutes of Physical
Education schools and colleges.
2. To develop heath consciousness among people through the leaders of physical education.
3. To provide scientific professional service to the workers of different factories and
members of different health clubs.
4. To develop the personality through Physical Education and Sports.
5. To practically implement the slogan “Sports For All” through professional leaders.
6. To provide Health and Physical fitness Consultancy to the people of the society.

OBJECTIVES:

 To prepare qualified teachers.


 Improve knowledge about Physical Education and sports.
 Develop proficiency in Games & Sports.
 Develop effective communication & pedagogical skills in Physical education.
 Get opportunity to apply learned skills.

Eligibility Requirements

A. A. Age
As per the directives of M.P. state Higher Education department, no upper age limit.

B. B. Academic Qualifications
The candidate must have passed the board examination under 10+2 scheme or
equivalent which is required for three years degree course in the university.
Satisfactory knowledge of English is essential because most of the books of physical
education are in English.

Admission Procedure

A. A. ACADEMIC FIELD

(1) Written Examination (1 Hour) - 40 Marks


(Based on General Knowledge, Sports and
English)
(2) Bonus Marks
(On the basis of marks secured in the 12th)
60 % and Above 10 Marks
50% to 59 % 8 Marks
40 % to 49 % 6 Marks
Below 40 % 4 Marks
Total 50 arks

B. Sports Field

(1) AAPHER Youth Fitness Test (Table Attached) 60 Marks


(2) Game (Any One) 50 Marks
Total 110 Marks

Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Badminton, Table Tennis, Cricket, Judo,
Handball, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Swimming, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Weight Lifting, Yoga,
Track and Field (Two events – one Track and one Field events).

Notes:

1. 1. The school of Physical education has the rights to include or delete any game
according to the administrative feasibility.
2. 2. The candidate have to secure at least 40 % marks in the sports field otherwise in
spite of his fulfilling all other requirements he will not be eligible for admission.

Eligible Candidates

On the basis of the performance in the admission test the list of general and reserved
categories will be displayed on the notice board of the department. In every category the
admission will be given only on the basis of merit. If any seats are found vacant in any
category it will be filled on the basis of merit from the waiting list of that category. If the
seats are still vacant it will be filled from general category. In each category 30 % seats are
reserved for women candidates.

Notes:

1. 1. The seats for SC and ST are interchangeable.


2. 2. The change in the rules of State Govt./ University/ Department will be applicable
from time to time.

 Caution money (Refundable) of Rs. 4000/- will be charged additionally in the first
semester.
 Alumni Fee of Rs. 500/- will be charged extra in the first semester.
 If a student repeats a paper(s) in a semester, an additional fee of Rs.500/- per
paper shall be payable.
 For NRI/ FN/ PIO Candidates, a fee of US$ 3500 Per Annum shall be payable on yearly
basis. They will have to pay a refundable deposit of US$ 500 once at the time of
admission.
 Hostel Fee and Central Library Fee will be extra.
