Code of Conduct

Lucille Lortel Theatre (hereinafter referred to as “Lortel”) has created this Code of Conduct
(hereinafter referred to as “Code”) as Lortel is committed to fostering an environment that is
free of racism, discrimination, and harassment, where all individuals are treated with respect
and dignity, can contribute fully, and have equal opportunities. The Code serves as a
complement to the Lortel Employee Handbook to provide you with guidelines on behaviors
and processes.

OUR COMMITMENTS

We commit to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Accessibility practices.

• We affirm our identity as an anti-racist institution.
• We have a responsibility to help dismantle all forms of systemic oppression.
• We make artistic, administrative, and interpersonal decisions that are firmly rooted
in equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility best practices.

We commit to serving each other.

• We treat each other with kindness.
• We share goals and ideals across the entire organization.
• We make time and space for the entire organization to celebrate its hard work,
accomplishments, and milestones.
• We take time to get to know each other as individuals, both in our own departments
and across the organization.
• We continually look for ways we can do better.

We commit to working as a team.

• We believe that everyone’s ideas have value.
• We assess and set goals as a team.
• We have open and frank discussions with our colleagues.
• We make room for people to respectfully disagree without fear of reprisal.
• We ask for help when needed and step up to give help when requested.
• We come together when one of us struggles or makes a mistake, then learn and
strengthen the organization.
• We will communicate all changes in job duties and responsibilities, and consider
current work capacity when moving deadlines.
We commit to a comprehensive strategy to address harassment and discrimination,
including:
• providing an effective and fair complaint procedure.
• promoting appropriate standards of conduct at all times.
• providing a safe, welcoming, and supportive work environment.

Under the New York Human Rights Law, every person has the right to be free from
harassment and discrimination. Harassment and discrimination will not be tolerated,
condoned, or ignored at the Lortel. If a claim of harassment or discrimination is proven,
disciplinary measures will be applied, up to and including termination of employment.

This Code applies at all times to all employees while working for or representing the Lortel.

This code does not supersede an individual’s right to pursue a police report and/or
investigation, or seek legal counsel.

If you have any questions about these guidelines and procedures, suggestions for
improvement, or other concerns please contact George Forbes by phone at (212) 402-8241 or
email at gforbes@lortel.org, or any member of the Board of Directors.

I hereby acknowledge that I have read and understand the Code of Conduct:
