HOLIDAY HOMEWORK
Class-X
SUBJECT- ENGLISH
Assignment to be done on A4 sized sheet.

Q1. Read the conversation between Mrs.Pumphrey and Dr. Herriot:

“Dr. Herriot had pulled up his car when he saw him in the street with his mistress and he was shocked at his
appearance. He had become hugely fat, like a bloated sausage with a leg at each corner. His eyes, bloodshot and
rheumy, stared straight ahead and his tongue lolled from his jaws.”

Dr. Herriot : Did you cut down on the sweet things as I told you?
Mrs.Pumphrey: Oh, I did for a bit, but he seemed to be so weak I had to relent. He does love cream, cakes and
chocolates. I can’t bear to refuse him.
Dr. Herriot : Are you giving him plenty of exercise?
Mrs.Pumphrey: He has his little walks with me as you can see, but Hodgkin, the gardener, has been down with
lumbago, so there has been no ring –throwing lately.
Dr. Herriot asked Mrs.Pumphrey __________________________. To which Mrs.Pumphrey exclaimed with
sorrow that she had done for a bit, but he had seemed to be so weak that she had to relent. She further added that
he loved cream, cakes and chocolates. She _______________ him. Dr. Herriot again asked her
____________________ plenty of exercise. Mrs.Pumphrey said that _______________________but
Hodgkin, the gardener, had been down with lumbago, so there had been no ring –throwing lately.
Now use the information given in Direct Speech to make a comic strip with illustration.

Q2. You run a travel agency with the name of Exhilaride.com. Make a
handmade flyer promoting a destination of Coorg, Assam or Goa (ANY

place. As a well thought out, well-designed flyer it should have the
followings; holiday destination, colourful illustrations, cost per package, the
total number of days for the trip, facilities you offer, etc. One shown as a
sample is meant only for your reference. (NOT TO BE COPIED)

Q3. No matter where you go, you may take pictures of gorgeous roads with
intersections or murals without having to set aside particular time to do so.
Trees and plants that are air purifiers or therapeutic can be photographed too.
Click the photos and bring those colourful pictures to school. Don’t forget to
label it with your name, class and section before submission.
