:LOCAL PLAN
Introduction
Local plan was provided under section 12 -16 in Town and Country Planning act
1976 (Act 172).
Section 12(1) - The local planning authority, in the course of preparing a draft
structure plan for its area or before the Committee approves or rejects a draft
structure plan that the local planning authority has prepared, may, if it thinks it
desirable, prepare a draft local plan for any part of the area.
Section 12(2) – Where a structure plan for its area has come into effect, the local
planning authority shall as soon as practicable consider, and thereafter keep under
review, the desirability of preparing and if it considers it desirable and it has not
already done so, shall prepare a draft local plan for any part or for the whole of the
area.

particular case specify.

Public participation is the involvement of people in planning and decision making processes to
improve plans and overall quality of the built environment.
Section 13 (2) - …local plan available for inspection under subsection (1), the local planning shall
publish, in three issues of at least two local newspapers, one of which being in the national
language, a notice stating the date on which copies of the draft local plan will begin to be
available for inspection, the places where they will be available for inspection, and the time which
shall not be less than four weeks from the date on which copies of the draft local plan begin to be
available for inspection, within which objections to or representations in respect of the draft local
plan may be made to the local planning authority.
