Call for New Associate Editors

Gender, Work & Organization (GWO) is 30! And, having a significant transformation of its editorial
team and with journal submissions having increased substantially, we are looking to recruit new
Associate Editors. We invite applications from scholars working within the broad field of gender and
organization studies who wish to participate in shaping the future direction of the journal. Associate
Editors will be directly involved in the handling of submissions to the journal, will oversee the review
process and hold responsibility for making recommendations for final decisions on manuscripts.

Ideal candidates will have a record of publications in journals of good standing, be scholars in the
areas of gender and organization studies, sociology, psychology, marketing, geography, behavioural
economics or other related fields and have methodological expertise in either qualitative or
quantitative methods. Extensive experience as a reviewer in refereed academic journals is required
and editorial experience either as an associate editor and/or special issue editor in respected
journals is a desirable, but not an essential, prerequisite. This is an ideal opportunity for a scholar
who wants to support gender-focused research and writing, has an ability to manage a significant
workload and wishes to influence the journal’s intellectual agenda and global reach going forwards.

Each Associate Editor will be expected to manage the review process of 10 - 20 manuscripts per year
in total, regularly engaging in follow up of assigned manuscripts.

We will consider applicants with expertise in any aspect of the gender and organization studies field.
We are particularly interested in applications from those with subject matter expertise in the
following areas: gender studies, work, organisation, industrial relations, anthropology, history, labour
economics, philosophy, politics, sociology, management, careers, recruitment, global justice,
intersectionality, transnational analysis, employment, critical management studies, feminisms,
masculinities, diversity, queer theory, ethics, indigeneity, decolonisation, hegemony, empowerment,
agency, collectivism, disruption.

Duties include:
• Making an initial screening of manuscripts assigned by the Joint-Editors-in-Chief
(recommendation for desk-rejection or to proceed to external peer review) based on the
journal’s aim and scope, the international relevance of the debates and the accurate use of
research methods.
• Overseeing the effective peer review of manuscripts by selecting the appropriate reviewers
to assign to papers, based on their area of expertise.
• Making a synthesized recommendation to the Joint-Editor-in-Chiefs based on the review
reports by the external reviewers.
• Ensuring the quality and soundness of the publications and complying with generally
accepted publication ethics and best practices, and policies set out by the Publisher.
• Seeking the submission of high-quality contributions to the Journal.
• Communicating with the Editors, reviewers, and authors whenever this is necessary.
• Meeting with the Publisher's personnel and the Editors at regular interviews (approximately
twice annually).
• Assisting the Publisher and the Editors with the promotion of the Journal via appropriate
professional networks/at conferences etc.
