APPLICATION TO THE POSITION OF EMERITUS PROFESSOR
I write to apply for the position of Emeritus Professor at the IAMRAT, College of Medicine,
University of Ibadan.
It is important to note that I have been a Professor at the University of Ibadan since the year 2000
i.e. for the past 24 years. I have since 1973 been a pioneer in Sickle Cell Disease, its genetic
Haplotypes, and confounding factors of Thalassaemias, G6PD and Malaria. I have been an
effective contributor in establishing the first Immuno-histochemistry laboratory at the IAMRAT
University of Ibadan. The pioneering work on Ethics of Research as well as the efforts at the
production of Ethics Guidelines and Ethics Policy of the University of Ibadan was under my
leadership. The Ethics of Research was well influenced at other Tertiary Institutions within
Nigeria and across the African sub-region.
The 14 years I have spent in retirement continues to be actively involved in Research &
Mentorship of younger faculty as well as Service to the University of Ibadan, other higher
Institutions, and the nation in general. I continue to attract Research Grants which I sub-contract
to the College of Medicine. I also gave some little amount for space use in the IAMRAT. In the
next 5 years (DV) I look forward to expanding my contributions in Research & Service to the
University of Ibadan.
