Job Description – Teacher (Global Ark International School)

2 Special Responsibilities

Pastoral Care Duties


Act as Year group Tutor or Class/Homeroom Teacher and in this capacity be the key
member of staff to provide pastoral support for each and every member of the
tutor/class/homeroom group including such functions as:
 Carry out daily administrative tasks
 Monitor individual learner’s progress and wellbeing
 Provide learners with day-to-day support and guidance as necessary
 Hold regular discussions with members of the tutor/class/homeroom group
 Discuss learner’s needs and progress with key staff and managers
 Attend and support school events as a member of the pastoral care team

Extra-Curricular Activities
 Plan and deliver a programme of enrichment activities derived from the taught
curriculum and/or from other interests and needs of the learners, on a weekly basis
throughout each academic year

General Professional Duties


 Carry out particular professional duties as may reasonably be assigned by the school
 Contribute positively to the overall life of the school

The post holder will, from time to time, be required to undertake other duties of a similar
nature as may reasonably be required by the school

3 Required Qualities & Personal Dispositions


A teacher is required to regularly demonstrate high standards of personal and
professional conduct. The following statements reflect the behaviour and attitudes which
set the expected standard for conduct throughout a teacher’s career at GAIS.

Teachers uphold public trust in the profession and maintain high standards of ethics and
behaviour, within and outside the school, by:
 treating students, families, and colleagues with dignity, building relationships
rooted in mutual respect, and at all times observing proper boundaries appropriate
to a teacher’s professional position.
 having regard for the need to safeguard students’ well-being, in accordance with
local and international statutory provisions.
 showing tolerance of, and respect for, others and the rights of others.
 not patronise fundamental international values, including democracy, the rule of law,
individual liberty and mutual respect, and tolerance of those with different faiths and
beliefs.
 ensuring that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways which manipulate
students’ a n d o t h e r s ’ vulnerability or might lead them to break the law.

Teachers must have proper and professional regard for the ethos, policies, and
practices of the s chool in which they teach and maintain high standards in their own
attendance and punctuality.

Teachers must have an understanding of, and always act within, the statutory frameworks
which set out their professional duties and responsibilities.

Teachers must abide by and support the school’s Code of Conduct and Practice:
 Put the wellbeing, development and progress of children and young people first.
 Take responsibility for maintaining the quality of their teaching practice.
 Guide children and young people to become confident and successful learners.
 Show respect for diversity and promote equality.
 Work to establish productive partnerships with parents and carers.
 Function as part of a whole-school team and co-operate professionally with
other colleagues.
 Demonstrate honesty, integrity and uphold public trust & confidence in the
teaching profession.
