For Kant, what is the role of reason in living morally?

Reason drives human wills to operate within the framework of moral law. According to Kant only
rational beings can be claimed to act morally. As a result, if reason indicates that one person in a given
position has a moral obligation to perform a certain act, any other person in that same scenario may also
have a duty to do the same thing.

Explain: “What is legal is not always moral.”

Our laws do not always reflect a national morality, and what is "legal" and "illegal" does not
always translate to what is "right" or "wrong." For example, if a young person commits a crime, he will
not be prosecuted because there is a law that exempts anyone under the age of 18 from prosecution. In
Korea, adultery is legal. It is wrong since it is part of God's Ten Commandments. Morality is a social and
cultural construct that our laws and legal codes overlook. Morality, correctness, rightness, and truth are
not always legal. And often what is legal is not always moral.

Differentiate rights from virtue theories.

Every individual's rights are the legal or fundamental grounds of their freedom. It is also the
belief that in order for a society to function well, the government must respect the goals of the people it
rules. Virtue is based on a person's character rather than their actions. It is also a moral philosophy that
believes that an activity is correct since it reflects an individual's intellect and character.
