My decision to take up Renaissance
Engineering Programme (REP) – one of
NTU’s Premier Scholars Programmes
was that I was attracted to the broad
spectrum of multidisciplinary subjects
bridging engineering, business and
humanities which REP offers. I was not
entirely sure which Engineering field I
wanted to specialise in yet, hence REP
was the perfect choice for me to explore.
The curriculum in REP was very apt in
preparing students in anticipation of the
future demands.
The one-year overseas immersion
exchange programme in a renowned
university such as University of California,
Berkeley was the other deciding factor
that drew me to pursue REP.
Surrounded by my peers, I am constantly
inspired to grow and be the best of
myself. With an emphasis on team-based
learning, the REP curriculum helped us
to communicate and work with others
better as Engineers.
NTU Smart Campus is a great
inspiration for Engineering students

as it shows how we can potentially use
our skills for a meaningful cause. It is
quite inspiring to see world’s first full
size, autonomous electric bus roaming
around the school campus and the
testing of drones for smart utilisation of
Singapore’s airspace.
I have gained a wealth of experience

Paris in France where I studied
mainly computer science courses,

They were all technology-related
covering the areas of robotics, artificial
intelligence, and software engineering.
The accumulated industrial exposures
have increased my interest in technology
and I hope to grow in this profession.
Apart from exchange and internship
opportunities, I was able to give back
to society through the Humanitarian
Engineers and Leaders (HEAL), an
overseas Community Involvement
Project in REP. Our mission is to
work towards sustainable efforts for
humanitarian causes with innovative
engineering solutions. For the
community, I implemented a solar-
powered drip irrigation system in a
farm around Prey Veng (Cambodia)
with intention of scaling setup in future
iterations. I also mentored juniors
to spearhead potential Engineering
projects with design-thinking, leading
to new partnerships with external
stakeholders such as Mistletoe, Inc.

passion, NTU-USP offers a great global

The NTU-USP curriculum also offers
many special prescribed electives
that are not available to the rest of the
student body. For instance, the module

At NTU Smart Campus, there are so
many smart projects and initiatives that
are being tested on campus which makes
me feel like I am living in the future.
Occasionally you see autonomous buses
and cars roving around, and you see
robots delivering food to the different
halls. It feels like I am immersed in an

environment that is constantly pushing
for the next new thing, which compels
me to do the same.
As a CN Yang Scholar, the research
opportunities are eye-opening and
meaningful. I have had a very hands-
on approach to learning especially in
the laboratories where I spent most of
my time. In my first year for instance, I
interned in a laboratory under the Lee
Kong Chian School of Medicine at NTU,
learning more about mycobacteria,
which could contribute to more effective
treatments for tuberculosis. In my
second year working with L’Oréal, I
studied how a balanced community of
bacteria living on the human’s skin can
keep our skin healthy. We also have a
very strong support system, especially
in CN Yang Scholars Programme, where
our seniors support the juniors by
teaching and mentoring them through
difficult modules.
My learning experience in NTU has been
amazing. The programme challenges
you out of your comfort zone by exposing
you to other disciplines. Even though I
study Biology, I also took physics and
maths modules and even participated in
a ‘making and tinkering’ project where
my team and I were tasked to engineer a
solution to problem. My team and I built
a teleoperated robotic arm which was
pretty cool and we won first place in
the exhibition.
During a learning journey in Switzerland,
we visited laboratories in ETH, Zurich.
We had the opportunity to interact with
many distinguished professors working
in various fields such as engineering
and agriculture and had a better
understanding of what it is like doing
research in other countries. The trip has
certainly ignited my interests in research.
In NTU, I discovered my passion in
learning languages. I enrolled myself in
learning Arabic, Japanese and Chinese at
the Centre for Modern Languages NTU. I
found learning languages beneficial and
meaningful as this helps me to connect
to people all over the world. Over the
summer, I visited Egypt and I managed
to interact and communicate with the
Egyptians in Arabic.
Staying on-campus in a hall has given
me a sense of independence and honed
my leadership skills. With numerous
social and sporting activities in the
hall, there is something for everyone.

My time in NTU has certainly been
enriching. Staying on campus in a
hall means I am able to experience a
vibrant hall life meeting new people
and participating in the various sports
activities offered by the hall. Staying
in the hall also offers easier commute
without worrying about being late for
classes.
I was involved in corporate social
responsibility efforts with other members
in the club where we participated in a

Jurong Lake Gardens. We interacted with
some residents from the constituency
and picked up litter while kayaking at
the lake.
Through the various CCAs that I was
involved in, I was fortunate to have
been able to meet many like-minded
individuals whom have become an
integral part of my university life. Friends
who motivated me to work hard when the
semester was tough and seniors in the
clubs who mentored us with career and
personal advice.

• These scholarships are open to current undergraduates or
freshmen on subsidised tuition fees who have performed
well academically and meet the criteria as specified by the
donor of the scholarship.
• The scholarships are tenable only for the academic year
awarded. The value of the scholarships range from S$2,000
to S$16,000.
• Freshmen can submit their online application only two days
after they have matriculated online. Shortlisted candidates
will be notified to attend an interview between August and
September.
