MEVCUDA 2023 CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP

ENEO TRAINING CENTER – LOWER MEVEO VILLAGE

PREAMBLE:
The following report has been written to provide the reader with an over
view of one of the pillars of the MEVEO CULTURAL AND DEVELOPMENT
ASSEMBLY – MEVCUDA which was created in the year 2014 and has
successfully organized 10 editions. The initiative has been dubbed the
MEVCUDA Capacity Building Workshop.
Since 2021, the MEVCUDA Capacity Building Workshop has been
organized at the ENEO Training Center in Lower Meveo Village.
For three editions, the workshop is characterized by theoretical, practical
and animating sessions. At the end of the workshop, participants are awarded
attestations of participation.

OBJECTIVES:

- To enable participants to acquire the necessary knowledge that is not

necessarily taught in the classroom, on varied topics of choice for the
particular edition.
- To enlighten participants on the concept of MEVCUDA as a growing
platform to bring together resource persons and organizations to impact
knowledge in their various spheres of influence.

PARTICIPATION:

For every edition of the MEVCUDA capacity building workshop,

the audience ranges from students from grammar, commercial and
technical secondary and high schools, students from higher institutes of
learning, entrepreneurs, farmers and farmers’ associations, traditional
authorities, other organizations, as well as common initiative groups.
For the year 2023, the audience participation at the MEVCUDA
Capacity Building Workshop included students from Government
Bilingual Technical High School (150), Atlantic Technical and
Commercial College (30), College de L’ESPOIR (15), Catholic
University Institute of Buea (75, Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary
Medicine (50), College of Technology from the University of Buea
(100), HIBMAT University Institute of Buea (50) and Chartered Institute
of Technology and Management in Buea (30).
SPONSORSHIP:
Our major sponsors for the capacity building workshop included
network provider CIMENTERIES DU CAMEROUN (CIMENCAM),
ORANGE CAMEROUN, CRÉDIT COMMUNAUTAIRE D'AFRIQUE –
CCA BANK S.A and HARIOM TRAVELS.

CIMENCAM
This year’s edition saw the major intervention of the Cameroonian
cement-making company where their staff representatives had two
days of theoretical and practical sessions from technical and civil
engineering students.
As part of the objectives of MEVCUDA to provide capacity
building to the youthful population in order to promote peace and
sustainable development, MEVCUDA was glad to have opened doors
to CIMENCAM to carry out a two day training session to students from
high and higher institutes of learning who specialize in technical studies
including civil engineering and building and construction.
The students from GOVERNMENT BILINGUAL TECHNICAL HIGH
SCHOOL, the ATLANTIC TECHNICAL & COMMERCIAL COLLEGE all
situated in the city of Limbe as well as students from HIBMAT
University institute of Buea and COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY from the
University of Buea all took part in this training on the definitions,
composition, uses, mixing and molding of cement for construction.
Under the watchful eyes of the trainers from CIMENCAM, these
participants carried out practical sessions in the field where accurate
measurements of cement were mixed and cement blocks stacked up
into a short wall.

CHALLENGES:

- Mode of transportation to and from the venue for the participants

was limited. There was only 19-seater bus that was made
available to carry more than 150 students every day for 3 day
during the capacity building workshop. This led to the delay of
scheduled events that took place in the capacity building
workshop.
- With every edition of the MEVCUDA capacity building workshop,
participation increases due to the growing interest of students and
entrepreneurs in various fields to gain knowledge and skills in
fields of influence. This growth in participation makes it difficult for
the restoration department to entertain all the participants with
food, water and soft drinks.

NEEDS ASSESSMENT:
- Mode of transportation. With a growing attendance from each
institution of learning, our wish is to have more buses to ease the
transportation process of these students to and from the venue of
the capacity building workshop.
- Projector. With the advent of technology and digitalization, there
is a growing need for presentations to be made through
projections for easy assimilation of presentations and lectures.
That is why we would love to have a projector of our own to
enable us facilitate presentations and lectures during sessions.
- Generator. In case of power outages, MEVCUDA needs a standby
generator to serve as a source of energy to facilitate presentations in their
various sessions.
