2nd YEAR: self-study 3 on diseases

Study goals
1. Skills: to be able to research material for a health-related
presentation and to create and deliver a health-related slide
presentation successfully.
2. Content: to be able to understand and describe diseases in
English

I. Diseases: detailed study plan


1. Learn the vocabulary of community pharmacy. You may be quizzed.
2. Study and learn the wordlist on health and disease.
3. Prepare a short, clear and accessible (easy to understand) slide
(Powerpoint) presentation in pairs :
 English-speaking sources only (at least 2 different sources): no
translation allowed
 3 minutes long (no excess time allowed)
 No reading allowed.
 You will have to keep constant eye contact with your audience and
avoid looking at the screen.
 Make sure you alternate several times within the group and know
the whole topic, not just part of it.
 3 simple parts: origin/cause, symptoms and basic treatment
 Check the pronunciation of your keywords (google or
howjsay.com)
 Do not forget the title page with your names, the outline, the
webography
 5-6 lines per slide, no full sentences on the slides, only key
expressions and keywords.

The topic to be presented in pairs is one of the following:


a. Flu
b. Gastric flu
c. The common cold
d. Acne
e. Cold sores
f. Tetanus
g. Measles
h. Mumps

4. ALL THE PRESENTATIONS SHOULD BE COLLECTED BY THE


GROUP LEADERS AND SAVED ON A SINGLE MEMORY STICK
BEFORE THE START OF THE TUTORIAL

II. Grammar study

Study and learn the section on articles and countable and uncountable
nouns from the List of do’s and don’ts.
