INTRODUCTION
Stress as an inescapable part of life generally touches a wide range of groups of
population with no regard to their age, gender, educational status or
socioeconomic status. Despite this fact, stress, depression and anxiety are
prevailing mental health problems among college students numerous
educational, social, environmental and psychological adjustment difficulties in
the new campus atmosphere which may affect their psychosocial well-being and
learning outcomes. These happen because the new tertiary educational system
has a big difference in its methods of teaching, academic requirements, type of
relations between faculties and even relations among students themselves In
short, stress seems to be very common in college students` life because college
students need to ensure their academic survival and prepare themselves for the
further career. It is not a surprise that much of the academic stress at the college
level is associated with what students learn and how they learn it. Stress can be
a healthy, and adaptive people’s response to the threat by mobilizing their
energy towards the stressors. Thus, it is important to note that a certain level of
stress is essential for the students in a way that it motivates students to progress
in their academic journey actively, would otherwise be inactive and uninterested
creatures Many researchers have also noted that stress is not always negative. It
also partakes positive motivational contribution in people’s life.
University students often face different stressful situations and preoccupations:
the first contact with the university, the freedom of schedule organization, the
selection of their master’s degree, very selective fields, etc. The purpose of this
study is to evaluate a model of vulnerability to stress in French college students.
Stress factors were evaluated by a battery of six scales that was accessible
online during three months. A students, aged between 18 to 24 years was
included in the study. More than half the sample was also suffering from low
self-esteem little optimism and a low sense of self-efficacy Regression analyses
revealed that life satisfaction, self-esteem, optimism, self-efficacy and
psychological distress were the most important predictors of stress. These
findings allow us to better understand stress-vulnerability factors in students and
drive us to substantially consider them in prevention programs.

RATIONALE OF THE SURVEY

3
When it comes to student performance, one of the greatest hindrances to their
effectiveness is stress. It has been observed that last year students' stress levels
are generally higher as a result of their various responsibilities and tasks.
Individualistic lifestyles and increasing competitiveness have created a sense of
powerlessness and helplessness in individuals, which has resulted in an
increased stress among students.
Stress has been shown to have an antagonistic relationship with job
performance and performance in studies. As a result, stress has become a
problem where students must contribute to the growth of their careers. As a
necessary consequence, colleges must make much focused efforts to manage
student stress in order to maximise the use of knowledge and abilities. This
inspired us to take the study and efforts will be made to study the stress
management with students

OBJECTIVES

 To know the stressed feel by the students on a daily basis during the

academic year

 To know the usual causes of the stress in their life

 To know the behavioural effect of stress that they have noticed.

 To know the psychological and emotional effects of stress that they have

noticed in them self

 To know what are the personal methods that they use to relieve stress

REVIEW OF LITERATURE

4
Our stress survey helps you quickly to assess and analyse the stress
levels of the people around you, touching on topics like sense of peacefulness,
physical activity, and having time for hobbies. Too much stress leads to poor
time management, strained relationships, and inability to focus—which
ultimately leads to more stress.
Stress management is a wide spectrum of techniques and psychotherapies aimed
at controlling a person's level of stress, especially chronic stress, usually for the
purpose of and for the motive of improving everyday functioning. Stress
produces numerous physical and mental symptoms which vary according to
each individual's situational factors. These can include a decline in physical
health as well as depression. The process of stress management is named as one
of the keys to a happy and successful life in modern society. Life often delivers
numerous demands that can be difficult to handle, but stress management
provides a number of ways to manage anxiety and maintain overall well-being.
Despite stress often being thought of as a subjective experience, levels of stress
are readily measurable; using various physiological tests, similar to those used
in polygraphs.
There are several models of stress management, each with distinctive
explanations of mechanisms for controlling stress. Much more research is
necessary to provide a better understanding of which mechanisms actually
operate and are effective in practice.
Stress management survey helps to find out the various ways that people deal
with stress and go through the various causes of stress. It helps to analyse
various aspects of stress and can help to come up with the conclusion related to
stress management.

FINDINGS OF THE SURVEY

According to the survey, out of all the responses received around 67.9%
percent of the individuals experience moderate stress whereas 18.9% percent
individuals experience stress on a higher level while 13.2% percent individuals
don‘t feel stressed at all. Moreover, life stress and work stress and burnout
cause unhealthy behaviours and disruptive symptoms for one-third or more of
Indian adults. Also, a whopping 48% responders prefer sleeping to reduce
stress. Sleep is a powerful stress reducer. Following a regular sleep routine
calms and restores the body, improves concentration, regulates mood, and
sharpens judgment and decision-making. You are a better problem solver and
are better able to cope with stress when you‘re well-rested. When left
unchecked, stress can lead to four disruptive symptoms, including irritability
and anger, nervousness or anxiety, depression or sadness, and constant worry.
Regardless of your age, stress can be overwhelming and come with serious
negatives. There are many strategies that can help you manage stress so that it
doesn‘t interfere with sleep. What we think, how we think, what we expect, and
what we tell ourselves often determine how we feel and how well we manage
rising stress levels. You can learn to change thought patterns that produce stress.
Taking time to relax and wind down before bed is important to sleeping well
and eliminating the stress of the day. A period of quiet time before bed allows
you to step away from daily worries and set them aside before sleep. Try taking
a warm shower or bath, getting a massage or doing some light stretching before
bed. Certain scents or teas can even help you relax. However, you don‘t have to
figure out stress-relieving methods alone.

SUGGESTIONS & RECOMMENDATIONS

12
Stress is inevitable, but it doesn‘t have to dominate your life. Do your best to
understand what kind of stress you‘re feeling, what‘s causing it, and how you
can respond to it productively. By addressing your stress in a healthy way, you
are doing all that you can to make the most of your college education. There are
many ways you can manage your stress as a student. Just as everyone
experiences stress in their own way, we all have our preferred methods of
coping with it. However, not all stress management strategies are healthy, and
some may leave you feeling even worse than you did before. To overcome
stress as a student it‘s crucial to learn how to cope with it productively. After
all, you can‘t control the stressors in your life, but you can choose how to
respond to them. Eliminating distress without attempting to maximize eustress
is the way by which most of the stress management theory work. By removing
distress you can create a vacuum in your life which you will unconsciously fill
with either the same distress you previously pushed aside or from some other
negative source of pressure.
If you will work effectively to produce eustress, you won‘t have to worry
about defaulting to negative feelings and drained energy when you find yourself
with some free time. In addition to that there are also several other reasons
which will lead to stress for a college student. Make an effort to only befriend
people whose company you enjoy. You can make lifelong friends in college, so
try your best to only invest your time and attention into the relationships that
matter to you. For alleviating distress include improved orientation for new
graduate students, more flexibility in core requirements, and expanding the role
of faculty advisors/councillors

Conclusion

Stress is an inevitable life confrontation commonly apparent among college

students. It usually arises from various academic, social, environmental,
physical and psychological aspects. To combat stress students always practice
various positive and negative mechanisms. However, when stress exceeds the
controlling capability of the student it urgently needs some personal

15
management techniques or professional assistance. In this present study,
majority of the students in the college are found to experience a moderate to
high level of academic and environmental stress as a result of various stressors.
The stressors explored to inflict stress among the students arise from teachers,
exams, course loads, peer pressure, academic results and time management.
However, to tackle their stressful situation most of the students are also found to
prefer more positive copping strategies than the negative ones. They are found
to mitigate their stress feeling through various healthy practices like engaging in
sports, reading, watching movies, chatting with friends, etc. The majority of
students were in favour of stress management education being included in the
curriculum, and hence steps should be taken for its incorporation. Health is a
major concern of students, and therefore the promotion of healthy dietary and
lifestyle habits should be encouraged. Additionally, teachers, parents and even
students themselves should be aware that undue expectations about academic
achievement can lead to stress. Finally, regular study habits and adequate
preparation can help students to avoid stress and make their learning effective.
