Personal Statement

Education, Digital Technology, and English have always caught my attention. I became
interested in Digital Technology because of its role in modern society, particularly in
education, such as Smartboards to computer labs, videos, simulations, online curriculum, and
interactive learning activities that can enhance the learning experience for students. My
passion for education led me to pursue my graduation degree at State Islamic Institute of
Parepare. I have a strong interest in curriculum design, particularly when it is related to
Digital Technology.

The current educational issue in my country is the difficulties in integrating emerging


technologies such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence, and adopting online and
blended learning models due to limited digital learning resources. For instance, during my
teaching volunteer in a community service program at a secondary school in a rural area in
South Sulawesi, Indonesia, I observed that students were facing motivation and interest issues
in learning because of inadequate teaching methods and digital media. Therefore, I conducted
game-based learning through platforms and augmented reality media in order to attract
students’ interest because it presents 2D and 3D objects, making the learning process more
interesting and imaginative. As a result, students demonstrated an increasing motivation to
participate actively in learning activities.

My volunteer experience sparked a growing interest in investigating the use of digital media
and integrated technologies in classrooms because it has the potential to optimize learning
activities. Therefore, I determined that pursuing my master’s degree in MA Digital
Technologies, Communication and Education at The University of Manchester would be the
ideal way for developing my skills in curriculum design and management. I plan to develop
skills in analyzing and researching digital education, encompassing detailed analysis and
evaluations of technological applications. Additionally, I want to be a lecturer and integrate
artificial intelligence and virtual reality into my students' learning experience.

The MA Digital Technologies, Communication and Education program will allow me to


apply theories and ideas to real projects as well as learn how to integrate emerging
technologies such as artificial intelligence by participating in individual and group projects.
This program is designed to empower a diverse range of education professionals, including
teachers, administrators, managers, and e-learning designers. Therefore, I strongly believe
that pursuing MA Digital Technologies, Communication and Education at The University of
Manchester will sharpen my skills and provide the ideal chance for me to further investigate
and gain deeper insights into the practical aspects of curriculum design in the context of
digital technologies.
