Entrepreneur meaning- a person who sets up a business or taking on financial risks in the hope of
profit.

What does she do?

She rose from poverty in the south to become one of the wealthiest African American women of her
time. She used her position to advocate for the advancement of black Americans and for an end to
lynching.

How did she start her business?

She started her business by selling her formula door-to-door. Because of a growing urban black
population after the turn of the century, “she was going after African-American women, “Bundles
says. “she know that this market was untapped.”

How is she successful?

Walker made her fortune by developing and marketing a line of cosmetics and hair care products for
black women through the business she founded, Madam C.J. Walker manufacturing company she
became known also for her philanthropy and activism.

How did her business grow?

She promoted her products by traveling around the country giving lecture-demonstrations and
eventually established Madame C.J. Walker Laboratories to manufacture cosmetics and train sales
beauticians. Her business acumen led her to be one of the first American women to become a self-
made millionaire.

How did she inspired me?

Madam C.J. Walker inspired me by creating these hair products this was big for us people because
we struggle with curly knotted, afro frizzy hair but since these products were made Women’s life
changed cause straightened hair were easier we never get lots of knotted bits in our hair and it’s
easier to brush.

Why is she important?

I think Madam C.J. Walker should succeed more because these hair products are life changing and
make us women’s life easier. Madam C.J. Walker became one of the most successful African
American entrepreneurs of the early 20th century by creating a line of extremely popular hair care
and beauty products for African Americans. She also helped other women succeed as an educator
and philanthropist.
