LPS Zone of Protection Calculator - Instructions Version 5.

6 5/3/2013

1) Choose the appropiate tab for the desired calculator.

Higher to Lower
Use this to determine where the rolling sphere makes contact with the roof,
when tangent to ground. This will help to determine where air terminals will
need to be placed on a lower roof.
Roof to Ground
This will determine if a lower object is within the zone of protection created by a
taller, protected structure. This will help to determine if a lower object requires
air terminals. You can also use this for pitched roofs.
Roof to Roof
This calculator determines if an object between two structures, which contain
an LP System, is within the zone of protection created by the two structures.
This calculator shows the low point of the rolling sphere between the two
structures. Use this calculator to help determine if a lower rooftop, or objects on
a lower rooftop, are within the zone of protection.

Roof Pitch
Use this calculator to determine the roof pitch ratio.

NFPA Flashover
Use the calculators on this tab to determine the flashover distances for the
NFPA requirements.

2) Choose the radius of the rolling sphere used in determining the zone of protection.
150 feet
Most commonly used for UL96 Zone of Protection.
100 feet
Most commonly used for NFPA 780 Zone of Protection.

3) Enter Physical Measurements from the Structure

Enter measurements into the white boxes Choose the unit of measurement

5) Press "Tab" or "Enter" after entering the final measurement, to generate the result.

The results will be generated in the shaded boxes You may also choose the results' unit of meas

6) *For the "Roof to Roof" Calculator Only

After entering in measurements, additional results are available by pressing the "More Calculations" button, located a
bottom-right corner of the calculator.

7) Results can be printed for records

8) Press the "Reset" button to clear the entries and reset the calculator.
