ACTIVITY SHEET FOR UNIT 2
Name: Aiken G. Solayao Course/Yr./Section: BS-PSYCHOLOGY 2-B

Instructor: Ma. Andrea C. del Rosario, RPm Date: February 15, 2022.

Assessment 1. Please answer the following questions using your own words…no
duplication of answers!

1. Why do we need scientific methods?

Scientific methods are needed in order for us (researchers) to emphasize the empirical data
gathered and make a list of the conditions under which we'll be making our observations,
measurement, and experimentation in a more systematized and orderly way.

When conducting psychological research studies, it is imperative to use scientific method,

and that would be possible for us to conduct experiments, define rules, and construct
theories in order to get a better understanding of the natural world's behavior and other
related studies.

2. Give an example of how you used commonsense psychology in the past week.

I realized that my brother is not doing anything aside from sitting all day and facing his
computer.

“I thought that he’s not socially active, and physically healthy, because all he does is to sit
all day, answering modules, streaming, watching movies, and etc.”

He said that he’s somehow doing crunches and push-ups, and he’s active in the social
media (virtual world)

3. What do we mean by objectivity? How does objectivity influence observation,

measurement, and experimentation?

Objectivity in scientific observation represents the idea that, to name a few pertinent
elements through our observation, individual perspectives, and interest should not
influence a scientific claim, procedures, and the results.

Objectivity in observation will help us necessarily in avoiding misrepresentation of our

data, and that our own expectation should not falsify the observation. In measuring data,
objectivity plays as important factor. It requires standardized units to quantify our outcomes
to measure objectively, and avoid biased conclusions. Lastly, Objectivity influences
Experimentation in a way of having a realistic understanding of how various parts of science
have attributed objectivity. It means that we don't utilize processes that aren't guaranteed to
produce the desired outcomes, and we don't provide individuals subtle hints to behave in a
certain way.
