ABSTRACT

The research is focused on the issue of road accidents in Bais City, Negros Oriental
Philippines. It provides background information on the local, global and national context of road
accidents, showing that there are a major problem causing many deaths, injuries, and financial
losses. The research then specifically looks at the trend of road accidents in Bais City over the
past few years, which has been fluctuating. This suggests the needs of the study that there are
factors causing these accidents, so that effective measures can be taken to improve road safety in
the city. Hence, the study aims to determine the potential consequences of road hazards for the
safety and well-being of Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) students at both Campus 1
and 2 in Bais City. The researchers used a descriptive-correlational study design, with test paper
survey questionnaires handed personally to a stratified random sample of around 119 first-year
students from various college departments at Negros Oriental State University's Bais Campuses
1 and 2. In order to understand the road accidents in the area, and it should identify the factors
contributing to them, and examine how these accidents impact the students' safety and well-
being. Based on the findings, there is a significant relationship between the potential
consequences of road hazards and the safety and well-being of first-year students at NORSU
BCC 1 & 2. The analysis showed that as students perceive higher consequences from road
accidents, their sense of personal security and well-being decreases, even though the correlation
is relatively weak. It highlights the significant issue of road accidents among first-year students
at Negros Oriental State University Bais Campus, which can help the university and local
authorities address this problem more effectively. The study provides insights into students'
perceptions of road accident causes, safety measures, and the impact of road hazards on their
well-being, which can guide the development of targeted interventions to improve road safety
and student welfare.
