DESCRIPTION OF KEY SKILLS

FORWARD ROLL
In this skill , the individual should be in a tuck position .A tuck position means that the individual’s body is in a
compact position. The chest will be tucked close to the knees when going over. To do the forward roll procedure, one
stands on the mat with his feet and legs together. He then squats by bending his knees, afterwards he stay up on the
balls of his feet whilst his heels are raised with his seat almost touching them. The individual bends at the waist to
put his hands flat on the mat just below and to the outside of his knees pointing his fingers forward. The chest should
be touching the knees, the chins are tucked there as the individual roll to avoid an injury to his neck. As he lowers his
hands to the mat, he should dip his shoulders and push up with his feet. When the individual start to roll forward, he
should keep his chin tucked and put the back of his head on the mat , he then roll forward not to the sides , as his
weight shifts to his hands he should use his hands to push slightly. The athlete then keeps his head and body tucked
as he comes over on his back. As he rolls forward he should come back to the starting position on the balls of his feet.
