Auger Connect
The Pierre Auger Observatory is located on the vast plain known as the
Pampa Amarilla, in western Argentina.
It Studies the highest-energy particles in the Universe, which hit the Earth fro
mall directions, so-called Cosmic Rays.
By detecting and studying these rare particles, the Pierre Auger
Observatory is tackling the enigmas of their origin and existence.

To connect the
Observatory, Silica
Networks lay 200km
with optical fiber
from our POP on the
Pipeline V9 to

Conclusions
Traditional Internet Scientific Internet
• Data is created in the big urban • Data created by nature, is recollected
conglomerates by human activity in isolated places on earth without
interference of humans.
• Data made by humans is available
thru search machines like Google. • The more isolated the place the more
suitable for gathering data of nature
• Google was the answer to the
need of human beings of retrieving • Scientific data must be transmitted to
the data, analyzing and reaching those capable extracting knowledge
conclusions. the scientists working in Universities.
• The users of this data are scattered • Antarctica is a Mine full of Data,
around the globe. waiting to be transmitted to
Universities around the globe

Antarctic's Bases
More than 40 countries have
developed presence in the Antarctic,
all of them are connected by Satellite
links, very high cost, very low
bandwidth, not enough capacity to
transmit the rich data they can
harvest, every day.

Inspiration #2: Kennedy “Man in the Moon”
“Why some say, the moon?, Why choose this as our goal?, And they may well ask why climb the highest
mountain?, Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic?…”
“We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but
because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and
skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one
which we intend to win, and the others, too.”
