Exercise 1: Open and save a document

1. Open L3_T2_act_whitepaper_with_cover_image.docx.
2. Select the text Author on the first page and replace it with Our Entire Class.
3. Hover over the title bar and emphasize the current document name and file extension.
4. Select the File tab, and then select Save As.
5. Select Browse, and then select the location to save.
6. In the file format drop-down box, select Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc), and then select Save.
The Microsoft Word Compatibility Checker dialog box appears, with information about the
features that will be missing when you save to an older version of Word.
7. Select Continue.
8. Restart Word, and inspect the files listed in the Recent tab.
9. Note the difference in the icons for the .docx file and the .doc file.
10. Select L3_T2_act_whitepaper_with_cover_image.doc to open the document.
11. Select the File tab, and then select Save As.
12. Select Browse, and then select the location to save.
13. In the file format drop-down box, select Plain Text (*.txt), and then select Save.
14. In the File Conversion dialog box, explain the warning that appears, and then select OK.
15. Close L3_T2_act_whitepaper_with_cover_image.txt.
16. Open Word, and inspect the files listed in the Recent tab. Note the differences in the last three
files.
17. Open L3_T2_act_whitepaper_with_cover_image.docx.
18. Select the File tab, and then select Save As.
19. Select Browse, and then select the location to save.
20. In the file format drop-down box, select PDF (*.pdf), and then select Save.
21. Open File Explorer, and in the left pane, select Quick access.
22. In the right pane, demonstrate the four files, their extensions, and their icons. If the file extensions
do not display in the filename, in File Explorer, select the View tab, and then select File name
extensions.

Exercise 2: Open and save a document

1. Open L3_T2_try_farm_starter.docx.
2. Select the File tab, and then select Save As.
3. Select Browse, and then select the location to save.
4. In the file format drop-down box, select Plain Text (*.txt), and then select Save.
5. In the File Conversion dialog box, note the warning that appears, and then select OK.
6. Note the changes to the document.
