Indeed, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step, I
am highly and eternally indebted to the Almighty God, the Alpha
and Omega, the Omnipotent God for counting me worthy to be a
student of Osun State College of Education, Ilesa and also for
seeing me through the successful completion of my programme in
this Great Citadel of Learning.

ABTRACT
This study investigates the causes of truancy among
Secondary Schools Students in Ejigbo Local Government Area.
The purpose of this investigation is to make an objective and
clear study into the causes and effects of truancy on students’
academic performance and also provide useful solution/remedies
to the problem.
The method used in data collection was questionnaire which
was validated by the supervisor. A total number of hundred (100)
students from four (4) different Secondary Schools in Ejigbo Local
Government Area were used.
The result of the analysis of data showed clearly that the
negative attitude of students to learning has a great negative
impact on the performance of the students.
The investigation has also shown that negative attitude of
students to learning has been as a result of the lack of
seriousness on the part of students and the attitude of parents
towards the academic progress of their wards.
Suggestions have been offered from this study on the steps
that could be taken to reduce truancy among secondary schools
students in order to amend the poor academic performance of
students.
