1. GENERAL
CONFIDENTIAL - The information in this document is confidential and must not be used for any purpose, duplicated, or disclosed to others without UOP's written permission.

1.1 Scope

This Standard defines the pipe classes to be used for Petrochemical Plant and Petroleum Refinery piping applications.

1.2 Basis of Pipe Classes

Pipe classes are based on material of construction, service requirements, flange class and facing, corrosion allowance, and design temperature and pressure limits.

1.3 Flange Finish Abbreviations

A. RF - Raised Face
B. FF - Flat Face
C. RJ - Ring Joint

2. IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM FOR PIPE CLASSES

2.1 General Pipe Classes (for a listing, refer to Table 1)

Identification follows a four character naming convention. The first character identifies the material, the second character identifies the flange class, the third character identifies the flange facing the fourth
character identifies the corrosion allowance. The modifier "S" or "M" identifies a special or modified project-specific pipe class. The modifier "NACE" indicates a NACE MR 0103 compliant pipe class.

2nd Character 3rd Character Flange

1st Character Material 4th Character Corrosion Allowance Modifier
Flange Class Facing
B - Killed Carbon Steel 1 - 150 A - Raised Face 0 - None S - Special
E - 1-1/4 Cr-1/2 Mo 2 - 300 C - Ring Joint (RJ) 1 - 0.063 inch (1.5 mm) M - Modified
F - 2 1/4 Cr-1 Mo 4 - 600 2 - 0.125 inch (3.0 mm) NACE - NACE MR 0103 compliant
H - 5 Cr-1/2 Mo 5 - 900 3 - 0.188 inch (5.0 mm)
J - 9 Cr 6 - 1500 4 - 0.250 inch (6.0 mm)
K - TP304/304L 7 - 2500
8 - Special Design
M - TP316/316L

O - TP316H
Q - TP321/347
R - Monel
S - 3 1/2 Nickel

T - Low Temperature Carbon Steel (LTCS)

Ex.: B1A1 is a general pipe class derived from killed carbon steel material, having ASME Class 150 raised face flanges, and 0.063 inch (1.5 mm) corrosion allowance.
