Real or Not real

I am analyzing Five Nights at Freddy’s. Five Nights at Freddy’s is based on a video game
with the same name. Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza is an abandoned pizzeria and entertainment center.
The owner, who is not named, does not want to tear down the abandoned building but keeps
night time security guards. The animatronicsMike Schmidt is a mall security guard and he is
fired from his job for assaulting a man who he assumed was a kidnapper. He is offered a job as
night time security guard at Freddy’s by Steve Raglan, his career counselor. While Mike is
reluctant to take the job because he takes care of his younger sister Abby, he ends up doing it
anyway.
While Mike is at the job he falls asleep every night like clockwork ny taking prescription
sleeping pills. He has the same dream repeatedly. He dreams of the kidnapping of his younger
brother. While he dreams it is different this time, he dreams there are 5 kids there witnessing the
kidnapping but they flee when he approaches them.
The first night at Freddy’s was pretty calm other than the weird dream. Before the second
night he realizes he was going to get evicted from his house. Meanwhile his aunt is hatching a
plan in the background dealing with the babysitter he hired to watch his sister to get him fired so
she can take custody of Abby.The Aunt meets with the babysitter and hatches a plan to have her
and her goons break into Freddy’s and destroy the place so Mike gets fired. Mike refuses to let
anyone take custody of Abby. The plan goes sideways and gets the babysitter killed.
On the second night Mike is dreaming and the kids come back. in the dream he can get
closer to the kids and one of the kids slices his arm. He wakes up to a pounding at the door and
finds a police officer named Vanessa. She is upset because he fell asleep. He didn’t realize he
was cut and he was confused how that happened. Vanessa helps fix him up and she tells him to
not fall asleep on the job.
 The next day the babysitter’s disappearance causes Mike to have to bring Abby to work
with him. He tells her not to leave the room because of all the strange things going on and the
weird nature of Freddy’s . While they are both sleeping Abby hears someone call her name and
she leaves the room. She runs into the main dining room and finds all the animatronic dolls from
the original five nights at Freddy’s have come to life. Mike wakes up and sees that Abby isn’t
there and he goes to look for her and he sees that the animatronic dolls are alive. He thinks they
are going to kill Abby.. On the fourth night Jane babysits Abby because he was freaked out by
the dolls coming to life. While he is there he takes another sleeping pill. He talks to the kids and
they tell him he could get his brother back if he gives them Abby. Initially he accepts but then he
changes his mind, but there is nothing he can do. The kids run by and attack him. He wakes up in
a torture device in the basement. Meanwhile an animatronic doll goes to Mike and Abby’s house,
kills Jane, and brings her to Freddy’s.
Mike escapes the torture device and luckily finds Vanessa. She reveals to him that her
father is William Afton, the serial killer who kidnapped and murdered five children. The five
children Mike saw in his dreams. And he kidnapped Mike’s little brother. The five children were
hidden inside the animatronic dolls and their souls became part of the dolls. That is how they
came to life.
The dolls plan is to kidnap Abby and have her become one of them. Mike rushes to the main
part of Freddy’s only to be stopped the the man in the “yellow rabbit suit” who is revealed to be
Steve Raglan his career counselor.
Abby draws a picture of the man in the “yellow rabbit suit” as an evil man instead of a good
man. The dolls realize he tricked them and they attack him instead. Hurting him really bad. The
dolls drag him away and Abby and Mike leave and can finally resume their lives.
I chose chapter 2 to talk about. Specifically realism and antirealism.
In the realism section I will talk about the dolls. The dolls are extremely realistic. They move act
realistic. They say, move, and act like living creatures. The editing team on the Five Nights at
Freddy’s movie went to great lengths to make the movie look as realistic as possible. The dolls
Blink as if they have real eyes. The dolls walk and their joints bend. The dolls play instruments
and sing and they play it as if they are alive. The animation did a great service to the movie. If
the animation looked fake, it would have taken away from the movie. But the realism of the dolls
added to the creepiness and scariness of the dolls hunting and killing.
 For Antirealism I chose two aspects. It’s a little ironic but I chose the animatronic dolls
and the souls living in the dolls.
For the animatronic dolls it is unrealistic because the dolls are alive, walking, singing,
killing, and many more things. While that plays into part of the story you are meant to believe
the unrealistic in the movie. The dolls look eerily realistic. But you can’t help but remember they
are dolls. That are alive. So while they look realistic, is it really realistic to think these
animatronic dolls would be scary and go on a killing spree? It is antirealism at it’s finest.
For my second point I chose the souls living in the dolls. Steve Raglan hid the bodies of
the children he killed in the dolls. But not only their bodies-their souls. The idea that somehow
someone could hide a dead, decaying body in a doll is unrealistic enough. Hide it well enough
the cops couldn’t find it. But to go on a whole other level that their souls are occupying the dolls
now and that is what is keeping the dolls alive. That is the Lore of the movie. But it is almost too
hard for you to believe. It would be easier to think the dolls were operated by batteries than the
souls of dead children.
I loved the movie. The plot of it is great. Although there were things that seemed
far-fetched or out of reach you have to remember it is fictional and that is the point. The story
line was easy to follow and the characters were good. It was entertaining.
