History (from
Greek ἱστορία –
“historia”, meaning
"inquiry,
knowledge
acquired by
investigation") is
the study of the
human past.
HISTORY
The past is contrasted with the present.
It is also regarded as the
conglomerate of events that happened
in a certain point in time, within the
certain space or place.
 Modern day – LIFE STORY
– Accounts of significant life experience in
given place on a given time.
– JOURNAL – as a tool in making historical
accounts.
JOURNAL WRITING
 Record things as ideas and feelings,
special words and expressions they
have heard, interesting things that
have happened to them or
information about interesting
people.
 Journal writing offers students
opportunities to write without fear often
associated with marking.
 Every journal entry is individualized.
CIVILIZATION
 It is the sum total of
all progress made by
man in every sphere
of action and from
every point of view in
so far as the progress
helps towards the
spiritual perfection of
individuals as the
progress of all
progress.
CULTURE
 Culture (from the Latin cultura stemming from
colere, meaning "to cultivate") is a term that has
different meanings.
– Excellence of taste in the fine arts and
humanities, also known as high culture
– An integrated pattern of human knowledge,
belief, and behavior that depends upon the
capacity for symbolic thought and social
learning
– The set of shared attitudes, values, goals, and
practices that characterizes an institution,
organization or group
– encompassing all human phenomena that are
not purely results of human genetics
ENVIRONMENT
 environment refers to the
surroundings of an object.
 The social environment, also known
as the milieu, is the identical or
similar social positions and social roles
as a whole that influence the
individuals of a group.
 We all know what it is to be
uncomfortable in a group of
people with whom we have
little in common.
PRE-HISTORIC PERIOD
 Prehistory (Latin, præ = before;
Greek, ιστορία = history) is a term
used to describe the period before
recorded history.
 Fossils (from Latin fossus, literally "having
been dug up") are the preserved remains or traces
of animals, plants, and other organisms from the
remote past.
ARTIFACT
 An artifact is any object made or
modified by a human. In archaeology, an
artifact is an object recovered by some
archaeological endeavor, which may have
a cultural interest. Examples include stone
tools such as projectile points, pottery
vessels, metal objects such as guns, and
items of personal adornment such as
buttons, jewels and clothing. Other
examples include bone that show signs of
human modification, fire cracked rocks
from a fireplace or plant material used for
food
ARTIFACTS
RELIC
 A relic is an object or a personal item of
religious significance, carefully preserved
with an air of veneration as a tangible
memorial. Relics are an important aspect
of some forms of Buddhism, Christianity,
Hinduism, Shamanism, and many other
religions.
 The word relic comes from the Latin
reliquiae, meaning "remains." A reliquary
is a shrine that houses one or more relics.

 Period when man learned to write
about his experiences.
 EPOCH – certain point in time.

ANCIENT PERIOD
 Ancient history is the study of the
written past from the beginning of
recorded human history in the Old World
to the Early Middle Ages in Europe.
 The span of recorded history is roughly
5,000 years, with Cuneiform script, the
oldest discovered form of writing, from the
protoliterate period around the 30th
century BC. This is the beginning of
history.
MEDIEVAL PERIOD
 TheMiddle Ages (adjectival form:
medieval or mediaeval) is a period
of European history from the 5th
century to the 15th century. The
period followed the fall of the
Western Roman Empire in 476, and
preceded the Early Modern Era.
CONTEMPORARY PERIOD
 Modern history, or the modern era,
describes the historical timeline after the
Middle Ages. Modern history can be
further broken down into the early
modern period and the late modern
period. Contemporary history describes
the span of historic events that are
immediately relevant to the present
time.
