Benefits
Tier II upgrade

The International Maritime Organization (IMO)


introduced new regulations on ship pollution, affecting
two regulation areas; one global and ECA zones and
are related to rated engine speed. In the adjacent
table and illustartion, the new NOx limits are described
in relation to the rated engine speed.
The regulations state, all new-build engines,
globally, are to comply with Tier II, while specific
areas (ECA), engines are to comply with Tier III
By converting the engine to Tier II the limit of Nox
emission is met and the ship is then compliant with the
IMO regulations.

Conversion to Tier II
L23/30A/H

The 23/30A/H is normally configured with nozzle


The conversion to Tier II for L23/30 engine cooling – in case the cylinder head is without nozzle
require following parts exanged: cooling the conversion need to consist also of either
a new cylinder head or have the current cylinder
heads re-configured by, on-site, drilling the nozzle
Harmonized set-up, GenSet/Propulsion: cooling bores.
Piston 3+1 – W.drain

Piston rings 3+1(KV1)

Flamering

Top sealing ring (0,50 mm)

Camshafts (D2) Prop. / (S1) Genset.

Nozzles (8x0,33x148°) Prop. / (10x0,32x148 ) Genset

Installation
What is needed

A Tier II conversion is, to save costs, recommended


carried out during a scheduled overhaul of the engine.
The relevant components for the engine are installed and
documentation for the IMO numbers on the components are
then reported to the vessel classification sociaty.
The EIAPP certificate and the technical file are then
updated for approval by the classification sociaty.
