 The use of Application media to Improve Speaking Skill in First

Grade at SMAN- 3 Palangka Raya

Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

A. Background Problem

Language is our means of communicating between people. Without language

we will not be able to interact with other people around us, Suppose there are

English people coming to Indonesia, but we Indonesians do not understand

English. So that person will not be able to communicate with these English people.

In this era of advanced globalization, the importance of English is very

necessary. Therefore, English education must be given to the education department

from elementary school to tertiary institutions throughout Indonesia. However,

errors in learning methods often make students think that English is difficult.

Speaking skills are one type of language skills achieved in teaching modern

languages including English. Speaking is the main suggestion for fostering mutual

understanding, mutual communication using language as the medium.

The speaking skill’s basic competencies of senior high school student is to

deliver any kind of information, orally with simple sentence according to the

context. Howefer for most learners, speaking in English is something that is

considered difficult. Moreover when student are asked to speak in English they are

become unconfident. Therefore, the writer’s have done a research about ”The Use
 of Hello English application In Order To Improving English Speaking Skill ”.

This research’s aims is to find out how the English speaking skill’s improvement

by using a Hello English application media and students response about this

application media in English teaching and learning activities.The sample of this

research is student in first grade of SMAN-3 Palangka Raya.

B. Formulating of The Problem

1. How is the Hello English application improve students' speaking skill?

C. Research Purpose

1. To find out how much increased students' speaking skill through the Hello

English application.

D. Research Benefits

Based on the research objectives, the benefits of this study are as the

following:

1. Teachers

a. The teacher can correct the weaknesses and strengths of the teaching system

so far so that it can be used as an improvement material.

2. Students

a. In the process of teaching and learning, can improve students' speaking

English abilities.

b. The teaching and learning process becomes not boring and comes alive.

c. Student achievement can increase.

3. Schools

a. Providing new ideas aimed at improving the quality of teaching in schools.

b. Improve the credibility and quality of schools

4. The Community

a. It can increase the level of public confidence in the quality of education units

conducting classroom action research.
