Synopsis
This story is based on Greek mythology. The Greek had many Gods. Most of
them lived on Mount Olympus. There were also Demigods called Titans.
The Ancient Greeks believed that Zeus created the creatures on Earth.
Myths were used to explain natural phenomena, or to instill good values and
morals.
Join our geeky narrators while they give us some brief snapshots of a few
famous Greek Myths and Legends.

The Myths:

Myth 1: Prometheus:
Prometheus was a Titan in Greek mythology. When Zeus created humans
and animals, Prometheus was named the protector of humans.
He took fire from Mount Olympus and gave it to people. Fire helped humans
stay warm, safe, and make new things.
Zeus was angry with Prometheus because he was afraid that the Gods would
lose power if they shared this gift with humans.

Myth 2: Pandora:
Zeus was still jealous of men.
When Pandora, who was the first human woman created by the gods
received 6 unique gifts from Athena, Zeus decided to set a trap for her.
According to the myth, Pandora´s curiosity led her to open a forbidden box,
releasing all the evils of humanity ( Like ANGER, FEAR, WAR, PAIN…)
Pandora’s other gifts, like intelligence and braveness, allowed her to close
the box in time, leaving Hope inside as mankind’s last resource.

Myth 3 Jason and the Argonauts:

The Argonauts were a band of human heroes in Greek mythology, Zeus told
humans that he will let them keep their benefits if they could prove they
were brave enough. Many Heros like Orpheus, Hercules or Medea
accompanied Jason to visit several islands in his quest Their name comes
from their ship, the Argo.

On the last adventure Jason was joined by Atalanta, Castor, and Pollux.
ACTIVITIES

For teachers:
This workpack is divided into different levels, considering learners’
age and level of language acquired.

As you may notice, the same play may cater for an ample
age range. This is due to an important innovation meant to
suit different students’ needs and interests.

This means that while different age groups may be

viewing the same play the various pre and post language
activities in the workpack attend to a different level.

Teachers are thus able to provide students with details

about the story and the characters before they come to the
theatre, and also with follow-up activities.
This material is overall best suited for students whose level of
English is equivalent to
A2 and B1 on the Common European Framework of
Reference for Languages.

A LITTLE EXTRA FOR

levels 1 and 2
This additional activity can further develop the learners’ general
communicative and creative skills.

Create your own Pandora’s box.

Divide the class in groups:
1-Each group should find a container (box, jar, etc.) and decorate it so
that it generates much curiosity, and no one could resist opening it.
2-Then construct ten evils of today's society and place them in the box.
All evils must be personified and have "eyes" and/or “hair” and/or "wings"….
( You may choose to draw and color your evils, or make sock puppets, or
even choose existing three-dimensional objects and glue "wiggle eyes" and
tissue paper "wings" on them...
For example, you can glue eyes and wings on a small mirror to represent
Vanity.)
3-Also, one item representing Hope for our present-day society must also
be placed in the box.
4-Then, each kid should write a very short “puppet show” about one evil
contained in your Pandora's box.
5- After that, the group can provide a "hopeful" solution to the evil you
have chosen.
