ELEPHANT

In today’s article we are going with more general topic, it is also a very elementary thing.
Yes we are going to discuss about an animal which is very familiar even for children. The
Elephant is gigantic in size. It can overpower any animal in jungle with its powerful legs and
tusks also with flexible trunk. In old Tamil literatures, Elephants was portrayed as a symbol of
power.

Even though, their powerful nature, they stay very calm every time. They live with their
family and group. Even today, many Hindu temples maintaining at least one elephant as a
symbol of god’s kind. In temples also they approach humans with very gentle manner. My
childhood memories with elephant always special. Sivagami (the elephant which was
maintaining by nearby temple) arrived suddenly our street when I was playing cricket with my
brother. I scared, because that was the first time I went close to the elephant. At that time, I can
feel her power and presence.

Now a days, many temples in Tamil Nadu, coming out of the idea of maintaining the
elephants. Yeah, it’s a good thing to hear, because temples are not their home. Many farmers and
villagers live nearby forest area having bad experiences with elephant. But, one thing we need to
remember we are the only reason for deforestation. We destroy their home for our own comfort
and well being.
