Volume

Write your answers on the lines provided.

1. Four rows of cubes are stacked as shown below. The edge of each cube measures 4 cm. If
two rows of cubes are removed, find the volume of the remaining cubes.

2. Samuel cut a hole in a cuboid measuring 32 cm by 28 cm by 4 cm. After cutting the hole,
the cuboid became a frame with a border of 4 cm. Find the volume of the frame.

Volume of the frame = 3584 – 1920 = 1664 cm3

Volume of the hole that was cut = 24 × 20 × 4 = 1920 cm3 Volume of the remaining 8 cubes = 1024 ÷ 2 = 512 cm3
Volume of the cuboid = 32 × 28 × 4 = 3584 cm3 Volume of 16 cubes = 16 × 4 × 4 × 4 = 1024 cm3
2. 1664 cm3 Solutions: 1. 512 cm3

is the height of the tank if the volume of water in the tank is 11 232 cm2?

2. A tank measuring 100 cm by 330 cm by 80 cm is completely filled with water. How long will
it take for the water in the tank to be completely drained off at 11 litres per minute? Express
your answer in minutes. (1  = 1000 cm3)
