Response Plan with Lumbini Provincial Hospital
1. Background/ Hospital Disaster Preparedness and Response
Introduction Plan is needed to establish a comprehensive all- hazard approach to national incident management spectrum of activities including preparedness, prevention, mitigation, response and recover. The three phases of a disaster program are disaster planning, disaster management and disaster recovery. It includes various steps including contingency planning, stockpiling of equipment and supplies, emergency services and stand-by arrangements, communications, information management and coordination arrangements, personnel training, community drills and exercises, and public education.
2. Description of Event: World Health Organization Nepal (WHO
Nepal) in collaboration with FAIRMED Foundation Nepal organized a planning meeting with Lumbini Provincial Hospital on 21 June,2023 in presence of Medical Superintendent Dr. Sudarshan Thapa, Metron Ms. Jyoti Poudel, Administrative Officer Rajan KC, Chief of Emergency, Finance Officers, Planning Officers, Logistic Officer, Section Officer, and Operational Officers of Lumbini Provincial Hospital,

Program was facilitated by Dr. Bishal Jha from
WHO, where he discussed about the planning process for disaster preparedness or any emergency outbreaks that need to be implemented with the satellite and provincial hospitals. He shared the preparedness plan and committee members that were involved in disaster preparedness committee. The main purpose of the program was to facilitate the committee for planning meeting to be held in coming days for preparedness of disaster and emergency outbreaks.
3. Objective To share coming plan for
disaster/emergency preparedness among the hospital emergency management committee. To sensitize the committee on the active involvement in functionalization for planning and preparedness.
4. Discussion/Conclusion Dr. Bishal Jha facilitated the program through
PowerPoint presentation where he discussed about the responsibility of the committee and role of each member including, Medical Superintendent, Metron, Administrative Officer, Chief of Emergency, Finance Officers, Planning Officers, Logistic Officer, Section Officers, and Operational Officers of Lumbini Provincial Hospital. They were oriented about phases of disaster management and immediate response measured that can be carried out to mitigate the risk factors of emergency outbreaks. Participants were also allowed to point out their view and ideas so that a plan can be formed among the committee in coming days as hospital disaster preparedness and response plan. This meeting was effective in many purposes as it helped sensitize the hospital committee on their active participation in preparation management of risk factors and preparedness measures. In between the meeting, Focal Person of NTDs unit ,Daya Sagar Panthi shared the activity progress and challenges of NTDs unit among the participants so that they can g provided needed support for strengthening unit.
