INTRODUCTION
In a time where environmental sustainability is critical, the search for
eco-friendly options cuts across industries. One such area of
exploration is pens and art materials. With growing awareness of the
importance of reducing carbon footprints and embracing renewable
resources, the study of the "Acceptability of Malunggay (Moringa
Oleifera) Leaf Extract as an Eco-friendly Alternative ink for refillable
markers among Grade 12 senior High School Learners at Sumulong
College of Arts and Sciences in the Academic Year 2023-2024" is
timely. This project investigates the practicality of using natural
resources for everyday needs and the educational component by
involving high school students, who are critical participants in
creating sustainable habits for the future.
INTRODUCTION
The acceptability of Malunggay (Moringa Oleifera) leaf extract as an eco-
friendly alternative ink for refillable markers gives us a wide awareness of the
principles of sustainability regarding natural resources and ecological
preservation. It also educates individuals about responsible spending by
offering a cost-saving alternative to traditional methods and sheds light on
the use of non-biodegradable inks that contain harmful chemicals. The non-
biodegradable synthetic resins and volatile organic compounds released by
inks cause environmental risks. Ink solvents contain VOCs that have
significant environmental impacts. Additionally, inks may contain hazardous
chemicals and air pollutants, contributing further to environmental harm.
The rise in popularity of non-biodegradable inks, which are being used by
both students and the general public, demonstrates the urgency of exploring
and adopting eco-friendly alternatives.
HYPOTHESIS

difference in the acceptability of difference in the acceptability of
Malunggay extract ink and Malunggay extract ink and
commercial ink across the commercial ink across the
evaluated categories (color evaluated categories (color
pigment, odor, consistency, and pigment, odor, consistency, and
viscosity). viscosity).
METHODS

This study employs a quantitative-experimental research design

to evaluate the acceptability and effectiveness of Malunggay
(Moringa Oleifera) leaf extract as an eco-friendly alternative ink for
refillable markers among Grade 12 senior high school learners.

This study involves 30 learners of Sumulong College of Arts and

Sciences who served as the respondents of the study. The selection
of respondents follows a simple random sampling method.
METHODS

The researchers used survey questionnaire as the main instrument

to gathering data of the study. Its enable to determine the
Acceptability of Malunggay (Moringa Oleifera) Leaf Extract as an Eco-
Friendly Alternative Ink for Refillable Markers to Grade 12 Senior
High School Learners of Sumulong College of Arts and Sciences .
They also used internet as a source of data.
METHODS

To determine the profile of the respondents in terms of age and

sex. We used the frequency and percentage to distribute the
answer of the respondent.
To determine the level of acceptability of malunggay in terms of
color pigment, odor, consistency and viscosity, weighted mean
was utilized.
To determine the significant difference between malunggay ink
and commercial ink, z test was used.
METHODS

A. Collection of natural dried Malunggay (Moringa

Oleifera).
B. Extraction of Malunggay.
C. Insert ink to marker container.
D. Construction and validation of survey
questionnaire.
E. Collection and analysis of data through
questionnaire.

RESULTS
1. Respondents strongly agree that Malunggay leaf extract ink has
good fade resistance, which is important for writing quality and
CONCLUSION visibility.
2. Respondents generally find the scent of Malunggay ink pleasant
and appreciate that it is odorless on the skin, though some are
less enthusiastic about its organic fragrance.
3. The viscosity of Malunggay extract ink is highly acceptable and
positively assessed, with respondents agreeing it is suitable for all
types of paper and has favorable characteristics.
4. Malunggay extract ink received the highest ratings for producing
neat, clean writing and quick drying time. Respondents prioritize
neatness, clarity, and consistent viscosity.
5. While commercial ink generally scores higher across most
categories, Malunggay extract ink shows greater variability in
ratings. Hypothesis testing confirms a significant difference, with
commercial ink rated more favorably overall.
1. For Senior High School teachers, this study can inspire
students to develop new products using natural, eco-
RECOMMENATIONS friendly materials like Malunggay (Moringa Oleifera) leaf
extract.
2. For Senior High School students, this study can enhance
their skills and environmental awareness by creating new
products, such as ink markers, using Malunggay (Moringa
Oleifera) leaf extract.
3. For researchers, this study provides knowledge to develop
eco-friendly products and expand expertise in sustainable
materials like Malunggay (Moringa Oleifera) leaf extract.
4. For future researchers, this study serves as a foundational
reference for further investigations into the applications of
Malunggay (Moringa Oleifera) leaf extract in developing
sustainable products like refillable marker ink.
