WHAT IS COMPRESSION MOLDING
• Compression molding process mainly used for produce various type of plastic and composite parts.
• The compression molding process uses heat and pressure to get desired shape.
• It used preheated molding material which is called “charge”, then compressed into two heated molds by heat
and pressure.
• These molds usually have a pre-heated cavity and a vertical press mechanism to effectively construct and
maintain the required tooling.

MATERIAL USED FOR COMPRESSION MOLDING
1.) Silicone
• Silicone material well used in compressed molding.
• Silicone has material characteristics of exceptional temperature resistance, flexibility, and excellent electrical
insulation properties.
• It can maintain the material properties even in wide temperature range and silicone easily can flow into heated
mold.

2.) High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
MATERIAL USED FOR
• High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) has
a material properties of high strength, COMPRESSION MOLDING
rigidity and chemical resistance.
• It can easily melt and can flow through
the heated mold.
• HDPE parts exhibit excellent impact
resistance and dimensional stability.
• By using the HDPE material able to
produce automotive parts and
industrial components.

3.) Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)

• Polyetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a non-stick fluoropolymer with mechanical properties of high temperature
stability and exceptional chemical resistance
• PTFE has excellent electric insulation properties and low coefficient of friction.
• By using PTFE can produce complex shapes and precious shapes like gasket, seals because is can flow
during molding process.

ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE OF COMPRESSION MOLDING

Advantages
• It’s a simple process
• It requires low tooling cost
• Good for manufacturing large and thicker products.
Disadvantages
• It has a higher chance of post molding costs
• Slower processing time (can be Bottleneck process in manufacturing)
• Not suitable for complex designs.
